Yet every year, including on The Block Island in 2024, contestants serve it up.

"I don't like butler's pantries," he said. "I've been trying to talk them out of butler's pantries for years!"

In the video above, you can see exactly how he feels about the "nonsense" space – and Block kitchens in the past he thought could have done without.

Watch what Scotty said above.

Scott's got good reason for his disdain for the always-popular feature. "You're out of the action!" he explained in an exclusive chat with 9Entertainment.

He's adamant that "in this day and age", the feature is simply redundant, especially as the average homeowner isn't regularly enlisting the serves of a butler or catering staff.

Scotty Cam spoke out in a resurfaced interview with 9Entertainment.  Nine

He added that on the few occasions he hosts big parties that include hiring a caterer, such as his 60th birthday two years ago, his guests simply celebrated in another area in the home while food was being prepared.

"I've got a bit of an older house and I renovated the kitchen," Scott continued. "I don't have a butler's pantry – I've got just a pantry. But it's a big, open plan kitchen. So, when we're cooking, we're all together."

Scott went on to explain how it's a source of frustration when he sees contestants compromise kitchen size or even indoor/outdoor flow, simply to force a butler's pantry in.

He believes it comes down to contestants wanting to tick a box, just to say they have one, rather than taking pause and considering whether it's really adding value.

It's not just butler's pantries that get his attention – Scott believes a good–sized master bedroom is also vital when it comes to selling a home.

"We've done some Block houses where the master bedroom is quite small, and I wouldn't buy a house based on that. As the person that's paying the money, I want a big bedroom," he said.

Given he's constantly surrounded by amazing properties, it's surprising that Scott has managed to restrain himself to purchasing just one single house linked to The Block so far.

"I needed a house in Melbourne, because I spend so much time there," Scott explained of his decision to purchase the 'challenge' apartment in the 12th season at Port Melbourne's "soap factory".

"I could never buy a contestant's house," he clarified.

The challenge house was built collectively by all the couples and owned by Nine Network, before Scotty snapped it up for what he said was a fair deal.

He's now lived there (part time) for roughly seven years. Scott sagely notes that a Block house is actually a very good investment.

"Fully furnished, fully finished, with art on the walls, beds, sheets, towels," he listed.

"We love living in it," he adds. "I'm on the ground floor and we've got four, five metre ceilings. It's like a New York loft apartment with terrazzo on the walls and I've got a tropical garden outside the windows."

He enthusiastically described the way the terrazzo runs right through the house and the fact the home also features its original windows.

"Everybody that comes here says, 'This is incredible!'"

Scott's not the only one who thinks a Block home is a sound purchase. Industry friend, radio and TV star Dave Hughes can also call himself a Block house owner, having purchased Block winners Josh and Elyse's house in Elsternwick in 2017, for $3.06 million.

"I was talking to Hughesy at the Logies about the Block house he bought, and he got slammed in the press for buying a Block house," Scott shared. [But he's just been given a substantial offer from someone to buy it off him.]

"I would have bought that house," Scott admitted, adding it had all the elements a perfect home could offer, including a big master bedroom.

Scott adds that Dave was amazed at the opportunity to buy when he realised the fully furnished and decorated home also presented a tax depreciation opportunity.

"He said, "Mate, it's the best investment I've ever bought!" It's never not been leased, he's always had a tenant in it, and he's just been offered [almost double for it.]"
