Walking in, the judges need a minute to absorb all the different features. But Marty Fox was “distracted by the technical and execution problems” in the room.

Perhaps the biggest eyesore was Lisa and Rosco’s hero piece - their wall niche. Put simply the judges didn’t get it and that was putting it lightly.

Marty Fox said: “It’s so bizarre that it’s not straight. What have they done? It doesn’t work at all. It feels like Flintstone-y. If that’s on purpose ... yeah, I just hate it.”

Marty might not have been a fan of the wall-niche but at least it was the ideal spot to shelve this book and some candles.

According to Marty, the Flintstone wall-niche was the least of their problems. He felt the room lacked quality craftsmanship, especially the application of the textured paint.

“It feels a bit try-hard. There’s no architectural flair. It’s mismatched, it’s crooked, it’s wrong,” Marty critiqued the space.

Thankfully, Shaynna Blaze found some positives, saying on a moodboard the room would work, it just lacked execution. Oh, and she loved the carpet. That’s when the bad news started again.

Domain’s Alice Stolz chimed in, noting the scalloped wall panels felt more Daylesford than Mount Eliza meaning the design didn’t match the location or the brief.
