Emma and Ben's Backyard and Pool

This was the "worst week on The Block" according to Emma and Ben.
What made it so challenging was the enormous amount of work they had to complete, including the landscaping, pool, sauna room and of course a wine cellar.
Yes, a wine cellar!
While rivals Robby and Mat weren't too pleased that Emma and Ben had "ripped off" their idea, in the words of Ben, "House 5 didn't invent wine cellars".

Emma and Ben's week also involved a lot of 'redoing' and 'undoing'. They had to rip up concrete and take down a retaining wall - all things that weren't part of the original plan.
But was the final result better than the initial plan?
Scroll through to see what judges Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer, Marty Fox and Dave Franklin thought of their backyard and pool...
Landscaper Colin Hyett designed and directed House 1's backyard and pool.
According to guest judge Dave Franklin, Colin "is not just a landscape designer, he's actually an artist".
And Colin's vision was all about mimicking the rolling hills of Daylesford.
As the four judges stepped out onto the deck and stairs they felt the drama.
"Where we're standing is designed as an amphitheatre to look at Daylesford," Dave said.
Marty thought stairs would make for a grand backdrop for family memories and portraits while Shaynna thought it would make one heck of a performance stage.
Darren was a huge fan of the undulated form of the landscape and the Tuscan-inspired stepping stone path.
Dave commended the selection of plants noting that 80 percent were native.
"It's very sustainable and these she-oak pines at the back are already two and a half metres tall," he said.
"By the time this all grows you're gonna have a fantastic garden here and it's gonna be hard to beat."
Shaynna headed over to the firepit which she thought was "well placed".
"How great is this for a little spot to roast marshmallows?"
"It's a beautiful position. You can see the pool, you can see the deck, you can see everything around here."
Emma and Ben won points when it came to sustainability too.
"The runoff from the gardens runs into the tank and then that feeds the irrigation," Darren pointed out.
Always one to think of how to market the home, Marty thought House 1 had a real "hero shot" looking at the backyard.
