The Block's Luke and Jasmin reveal their top money saving tips to saving thousands when renovating a bathroom

The Block stars Luke and Jasmin are renovating gurus, who wowed the judges week on week during the 2020 season in Brighton.

But this week, they took to Instagram to share their biggest tip when renovating a bathroom that could end up saving you thousands.

In the video above, you can see how the couple did it – and it involves a whole lot of patience.

"We present to you… The ensuite that [Facebook] Marketplace built 😂," they wrote. "From the get go we've chosen to keep costs down as we built this purely for re-sale purposes.

"This meant sourcing nearly everything from Facebook Marketplace,"

While some may be put off by the idea of buying second-hand bathroom items, the couple added: "Everything was brand new, in boxes, so it meant good quality without the price tag."

Among the bargains were a floating bathroom vanity for $350, a shower rose for $149, a ceramic basin for $90 and wall hooks for just $5.

They added that using the tool "isn't for the faint hearted," adding: "It took us months to find and secure items that fitted the aesthetic and the tight dimensions.

"The @al.ive_body duo looks right at home, on our Marketplace vanity find."

They finished with a game, asking their followers to guess the price and they'd respond if it was higher and lower.

They said it was higher than $2,500, as "the fit out includes Al fixtures, tiling, VJ paneling, plumbing and electrical)" but lower than $6700.

Recently, 9Honey's Amy Lyall detailed how she saved so much money using the platform, and shared her top tips:

• Pick how far you're willing to go for something and stick to it. A lot of people don't want to post and the price you'll pay for shipping a big item is ridiculous.

• Know what you want and start searching for it. Soon enough, it'll be all through your algorithm.

• Search for specific key words to help filter your search

• Don't just send the auto 'Is this still available?' message – send an actual message and you're more likely to get a response.

Luke and Jasmin walked away from The Block with $506,000 profit when their 1910s style house sold at auction for $3,856,000.

Only recently, the couple revealed the heartbreaking news that Jasmin had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

"Unfortunately last week I was diagnosed with breast cancer," Jasmin said.

"We are devastated, given my age, no family history and lack of symptoms. I was just heading off for my first ever mammogram after a friend at work told me to go after turning 40. She saved my life."

Jasmin said that she's thankful the cancer had been caught early, but said: "My treatment includes a double mastectomy, chemo and radiation followed by years of hormone blocking medication.

Jasmin, who shares young children Lola and Sonny with Luke, concluded her post by urging those who are able to book in a free mammogram.

"I'm confident I'll beat this and come out stronger than before 💪🏼 With an even better outlook on life. Just like my wrist tattoo says 'Focus on the Good' that's my mantra through this battle," she wrote.

"If you are 40, I urge you to book in a FREE mammogram. Don't put it off. Make it a priority in your busy life."
