Kylie and Brad's guest bedroom could have ended up looking very different.

Kylie has made no secret of the fact that her design style is, well, simply black.

But after very harsh feedback from the judges on their all-black guest bathroom, she entered Week 2 second guessing herself.

Following a pep talk about 'backing herself' from Shelley during her and Scotty's walkarounds, Kylie found a new burst of inspiration.

Ultimately, she and husband Brad ended up delivering a "paired back" room that relied on pinks and whites – with dark accents, of course.

Did (mostly) ditching the black give the judges what they wanted?

Kylie initially decided on a full 180 from their black bathroom. She even planned to paint the bedhead 'summer peach'.

But during the week, she pivoted to something slightly more in her wheelhouse.

"It's such a catch, because I need to take on the judge's feedback so I can sell the home [but] I don't want to be creating something that I wasn't envisioning," Kylie explained at the end of their week.

They had $12,000 to work with this week, and Kylie and Brad came in just under budget with $11,115 spent.

"I'm in a good place mentally today," she said ahead of judging.

"So let's shatter it," Brad joked.

"Don't! No, so I'm ready to hear feedback," she replied.

Things got off to a positive start when the judges walked into the room.

"Ah, we have floorboards!" Shaynna said.

She had previously criticised the other homes for being carpeted because of Phillip Island's coastal, sandy location.

"And a fan!" Shaynna continued, as Kylie and Brad were the first of the homes to consider heating and cooling.

"And doesn't it just feel nicer in here with that fan moving, compared to the other homes today?" Marty said.

"It makes such a difference," Darren agreed.

However, Darren wasn't convinced by their styling.

"This is really very classic," he said.

"It's elevated but I feel like it's as at odds to its location as last week's room was but in a different direction."

Darren liked the oak elements, but questioned the other styling choices.

"They've got some of the things that were really needed, like this oak timber floor, and the oak elements, but this room I feel like they've put things in for the sake of putting them in to make it look like it's tricked up," he says.

"But I don't think it works in this environment."

Shaynna was on the same page. The Art Deco choices "perplexed" her.

"Do you get that? It was a very Art Deco room, wasn't it – like the bed head," Scotty explained further.

Shaynna felt like the design did not suit the location of Phillip Island.

Last week, Marty's comments devastated Kylie and Brad – but this week, he was their biggest supporter.

He said the room was "palatable" and "marketable", which appealed to buyers.

"This is a room where if you had 10 buyers walk through, you're not having that jarring effect by at least half of them like we had last week," he explained.

He commended them for taking on his "pretty harsh" feedback and toning down their style.

At HQ, Scotty relayed that Marty said it was a great room that could be made better with tweaks to the bedhead and art work.

"The room itself, I'm just so happy that it's not as intense and dated and night clubby as next door," he said in reference to their bathroom.

He felt like they had done a good job of delivering a less divisive room while also keeping their personal style – but Darren and Shaynna held the complete opposite view.

"This is a very old version of a modern Art Deco feel and it doesn't feel high end as well," Shaynna said.
