When Jesse and Paige joined The Block, they had ambitious hopes to be "the first ones finished each week".

In an ironic twist, House 1 were far from the first ones to be finished.

The couple faced set back after set back in a week that could only be described as "painful" and "terrible".

After having to re-do their waterproofing, the duo ran into a shower screen disaster when their custom glass didn't turn up.

The couple fell behind the line, but was it enough to please the judges?

Despite a rocky start, the duo were able to deliver a room.

"I was really proud of the effort we put in as a team," said Jesse.

The CommBank smart board recommends around a $20k budget for the guest bathroom and the team spent a close $26,968.

Walking into the bathroom, Shaynna let out an excited gasp.

Stunning fish scale tiles dressed the walls from floor to ceiling.

But at what cost?

Taking the space in, Marty let out a little "wow".

So did Shaynna, but for different reasons.

"Wow, they would have thought they were coming in to do a challenge room," she said as she looked around.

"The fact that they had to do a bathroom has thrown them, and you can really tell."

"It's not finished, the poor things," Shaynna sympathised, spotting what can only be described as every team's worst nightmare.

Marty jumped in quite stunned by what he saw.

"And Jesse is a builder and it's not finished," he pointed out.

And while it certainly would have made a statement, floor to ceiling tiles turned into quite the ambitious task.

"He must be gutted," said Shaynna while Jesse nodded his head back at The Block HQ.

The judges' eyes were quickly drawn to the unfinished, exposed shower niche – at least it was styled!

"Plan well and execute well if you want to win over these judges," relayed Scott Cam.

Marty made his point: "There's a chippy within this team and to have a room unfinished, for me, I believe that there is no excuses.

"If other teams have finished this week and this team hasn't, my margin for error is very, very small."

Half-grouted and unfinished, Paige said she felt "really disappointed" in herself by the end of the week.

"But I think once we move past those emotions, we were really happy with the room," she told cameras ahead of the reveal.

Paige described their style as elevated "coastal grandma" with pops of green throughout a stunning neutral colour palette.

"I'm so proud of it, even if it was incomplete," smiled Paige.

And she should be, especially after the positive things Shaynna then had to say.

"I have to say, I am loving the materials they've used here," Shaynna found the silver lining.

"The brushed chrome, I think it's actually quite sexy, it's beautiful..."
