Kitchen Week is a huge week on The Block, and this year it was made even bigger with a week-long challenge to help the local Phillip Island community.

Scott Cam and Shelley Craft met the teams at the Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club, where our five houses were split into two teams.

How do you split odd numbers, I hear you ask? Well, Scotty brought in a couple of extra hands to even things out... and make them even more interesting.

It was Block royalty Kyal and Kara. The Super Ks are one of the most successful Block pairs ever, so having them on board was HUGE.

Ricky and Haydn and Kylie and Brad were the lucky ones to join forces with Kyal and Kara to tackle the 'island side' of the surf club, while Maddy and Charlotte, Courtney and Grant and Kristian and Mimi took on the ocean side.

How did they go in breathing new life into this crucial community space?

The surf club looked like any old community space before our teams got stuck in.

Here is a before photo of the bar, which Ricky of House 3 was especially excited about revamping.

The space was rather crowded with a few less-than-ideal storage solutions.

To help, the Blockheads added lots of storage space under the bar. Swipe across to see!

Here's a look behind the bar after the epic renovation.

With the glasses and other bar necessities stored underneath, there was extra room for styling, artwork and merch of course!

Former judge Neale Whitaker made a special appearance to award a winner of the challenge and he was immediately impressed by this space.

The hero of the space was undoubtedly the incredible custom bar top.

Christian Cole, known as the 'Furniture God', agreed to help the island-side team create a bespoke piece.

"This is so beautiful," Neale said.

"It's Christian Cole of course," Scotty informed him.

"Oh of course!" Neale replied.

Here's a handy little sink tucked in the back!

"Nice splashback, nice tiles," Neale praised.

The ocean side team, made up of House 1, 2 and 5, had the task of revamping this area of the surf club.

They decided to make it a more functional entertainment space, and boy did they deliver!

It's night and day, isn't it?

The teams kept a lot of the incredible memorabilia on the wall, but decorated the space with an added couch, cushions and a TV.

The wall in this area was decorated with a large Grafico print that tied back to the club's history.

"I love the way this side beautifully combines the old and the new," Neale gushed.

"We've got all the really important memorabilia, the club insignia, everything there that you have to have because that's the story of this place, but they've also managed to make it feel contemporary and relaxed."
