The Pinks arrive (in white and red)

Chelsea McLaughlin

They’re Pink in name, but this year North Melbourne AFL player Toby Pink is rocking a white suit with dark tie while wife Chloe Pink looks spectacular in red.

Chloe gave her followers a behind-the-scenes look at allll the work that goes into a day like this, checking in with a “4am start” on her Instagram Story. Oof!

Seven hours later, hopefully they’ve managed a few coffees before hitting The Birdcage!

The couple have shared a lot about their experiences navigating infertility this year, telling nine.com.au that they were “very open and honest people” and hoped to inspire others to open up.

“I can’t even tell you why it’s taboo. It’s so secretive, I think you feel like you’re on the journey alone but there’s so many people going through infertility, and it’s rough!” Chloe said.

“The more we talk about it, the easier it is to go through the journey, not that I think it will ever be easy, but it just makes it slightly less hard.”

Another vote for monochrome! Chloe Pink is in top-to-toe red while her husband AFL star Toby Pink is suited in beige and black.  Getty Images

BREAKING: Waller probed after Cup horse scratched

Simon Brunsdon

Champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller is being probed by Racing Victoria stewards after his horse Asterix was scratched from the Melbourne Cup.

“Acting on a report from the Racing Victoria (RV) Compliance Assurance Team (CAT), RV Stewards today interviewed trainer Chris Waller, after it had been established that Asterix, which was engaged to compete in Race 7 at Flemington, the Lexus Melbourne Cup, was found to have had the medication Penetrene administered to both forelegs in its stable on race morning,” a statement reads.

Waller won the Melbourne Cup in 2021 with Verry Elleegant.

He still has Soul Of Spain in the great race today at 3pm.

Kate Waterhouse spills on the pressure of Cup Day

Chelsea McLaughlin

Racing royalty Kate Waterhouse loves her at-home comfys as much as the next gal, but obviously they wouldn’t quite fly today!

“I do feel the pressure to get the right outfit,” she told nine.com.au.

“I definitely couldn’t be rocking up in my trackies and runners, that’s for sure! But I love it. It’s such an exciting time of year, I love fashion, I love that whole feeling of, you know, it’s sort of a transformation, it’s a character, really. It’s a really fun part of what I do, so I truly love it.“

This year, her “transformation” involves a stunning aubergine dress and hat by designer Steven Khalil, with Chopard jewels and gloves all the way from Milan.

Waterhouse is involved in all the action right through the day, so the key to her outfit? Comfy shoes, of course.

She’s opted for Jimmy Choos and thankfully, they tick that box!

“I’m always like, “Make sure the shoes are comfortable’, and then I’m like in the highest heels ever! But I did walk around the hotel room trying to wear them in a little bit because there’s nothing worse than when you’ve got sore feet for a whole day.”

Lauren Attard

Jules Neale is stunning in red!

Neale gave fans a first look at her Cup Day look on Instagram – an all-red look right down from her headband to her heels.

“CUP DAY READY,” she celebrated.

It’s a perfectly bold look ahead of her special task today, as she undertakes the champagne tap moment in Champagne house Mumm’s marquee.

Jockey swamped before race

Liam O'Loughlin

Blake Shinn has been absolutely swarmed by connections before race two.

For many owners, whether they have a small share in one horse or massive interest in a whole bunch, having a runner compete on Melbourne Cup day is an amazing moment.

Shinn rides Politely Dun, who is rated a $9 chance with bookies in this next race.
