Kahla Preston

Kahla Preston is nine.com.au’s deputy lifestyle editor, and has covered everything from royals, celebrity and style to health, relationships, travel and food during her career.

Experience

Kahla has been working in the digital lifestyle space from the moment she began her media career in 2013, and has the screen-time stats to show for it.

She joined the nine.com.au team in 2017 as a writer, with a particular focus on human interest stories, features and women-focused news. She led the video interview series How We Met and was instrumental in the creation of ongoing article series Love Stories.

Kahla was promoted to Deputy Lifestyle Editor in 2020, and has since helped craft and lead the team’s coverage across a range of lifestyle topics and news events – everything from royal exits, weddings and tours and A-list events like the Met Gala to global phenomena like the COVID pandemic (immortalised in her column Working From Home Diaries).

When she’s not writing, producing or editing content, she’s closely involved in content distribution via social media, SEO, Google News Showcase, alerts and EDMs.

Prior to Nine, Kahla worked at Mamamia from 2013-2017, where she held various roles, including deputy editor of health and beauty website The Glow and evening editor of Mamamia. As a university student she interned at publications including The Sydney Morning Herald and Cleo magazine, and was an editor of the UTS student publication Vertigo.

Education

Kahla completed a double degree at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) – Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) and Bachelor of International Studies.

Awards and Recognition

In 2018, Kahla was nominated for Journalist/Producer of the Year in B&T’s Women in Media Awards. That same year, she was part of the lifestyle team nominated for a Mumbrella Publishing Award for their Royal Wedding coverage.
