Episode 19 Recap: Fallout as 'copycat' scandal fractures friendships and leads to wild offer no one can believe

It is Week 5 of The Block and today is 'the day The Block changes'.

But first, the site lives up to its 'happiest Block on earth' moniker just a little longer, as lovebirds Emma and Ben celebrate their third wedding anniversary.

To celebrate, they're going to attempt putting flat pack furniture together – an activity that has definitely never resulted in fights between couples before!

The flooring issues are continuing to plague House 2, but Han and Can's new stress-free outlook is doing them wonders as they decide to "trust the process".

"Being stressed gets us no where except more stressed and our stress rubs off on each other and our trades," Can explains.

Despite House 5's best efforts of uh, tarps and fences that definitely say 'nothing to see here', Ben is well-and-truly onto them and their giant backyard hole.

He jokes: "It's either a nuke bunker or a wine cellar."

Well, it's meant to be a wine cellar. Whether they'll have the cash to pull it off remains to be seen.

To help with that, the teams each get to choose what work they'd like hipages to help with.

While most are considering a carpenter or bricklayer, Robby and Mat need a joiner to create the wine racks.

They know their choice will raise eyebrows...

Other than that, the choices go off without even a hint of disagreement.

It's still happy families. For now.

That evening, Sonny is off on a date.

With... Foreman Dan.

He tells Sonny he needs a secret weapon, something to set them apart from the rest of the competition.

During Dan and Dani's All Star season in 2013, they came third at Auction after discovering rivals Phil and Amity had built a secret loft... and he's still cut up about it.

"You've got to think of a big weapon, because there are big weapons out there," Dan hints.

Hmmm, like their neighbours and the giant hole they've been hiding under everybody's noses?

The next morning, Sonny and Alicia go snooping.

Suspicious, Alicia pretends she wants to have a go on the excavator in House 5's backyard, which she is definitely not licenced to operate.

Sonny takes a sneaky pic of the nearby formwork and uses Googles Lens to learn it is used to create structured walls.

Putting two and two together, Sonny figures it out.

Next, Ben arrives for a snoop of his own but the lads refuse to tell him what the formwork is for.

At this point, the suspicion is taking over The Block... except for in House 2, where Han's brand spanking new positivity has her leaping into GMac's arms after a passed inspection.

The next morning, Scotty invites everyone to a pickleball tournament. Winner gets $10,000 and a court worth $50k for their backyard.

It comes down to House 1 vs House 5, and another comment from Ben about the boys' hole in their backyard turns out to be his downfall.

Robby and Mat win and Mat immediately launches into a song and dance about how the court will look great next to their "pool and big hole".

Everyone is rather salty.

Sonny and Alicia haven't had much luck with winning yet, but they've been focused on taking out the renovation of Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa and securing the $260,000 caravan prize.

While everyone is told they cannot add a bench to their spaces, Sonny has devised a clever workaround to get one in his – with under-seat heating.

And then... bam. We have our Block fallout.

Wyatt from Hotwire says he received a call from House 2 yesterday after they saw House 4's thermostat, and asked for the same.

Sonny and Alicia are ropable, saying "today's the day the Block changes".

Back on site, they march straight to House 2 to confront Han and Can.

Han explains that her tradie told her a way-around, separate to Sonny doing the legwork to come up with a plan as well.

Alicia doesn't believe a word she says.

While Alicia tells Robby and Mat what's going on, Han gets Can up to speed.

"They both f--king ripped me to shreds, I cannot take anymore. I need to get out of here Candace," Han says, breaking down.

She says she just wants everyone to leave her alone.

Meanwhile, Can apologises to Alicia and Alicia takes that as meaning she has a guilty conscience.

"They're not sorry, they just feel bad they've been caught," Sonny says.

The whole thing has Han and Can down in the dumps, as they question whether they should just pack it all in and go home.

Alicia again confronts them, this time to tell them to stop being upset and remind them of their girls' night dinner plans.

"If I'm not over here crying over what you've just done, you have no right to cry. Or are you crying because you've been found out?" she reflects on the couch.

Last minute, Emma and Britt pull out of dinner so in an attempt to make things a tiny bit less awkward, Mat joins the remaining trio.

But it... it doesn't make much of a difference.

Han and Can say they don't even want the $260,000 caravan, so if they win the challenge they will gift it to Sonny and Alicia instead.

They don't see this as an admission of guilt at all, but the same can't be said for anyone else.

"If someone accused me of doing something I didn't do, I would fight to the death to prove that I was innocent," Mat reacts.

Oh here we go – roll the footage from yesterday!

Han and Can are pondering how to get heating into a bench seat they have planned.

They're unsure on how the wiring could work, until a tradesman points out that it's already been done in House 4's area.

The happiest Block on earth has certainly come crashing down, hasn't it?
