It's another huge day on Phillip Island!

As Blockheads wake up on the Wednesday of Main Ensuite week, there is only one thing on their minds: Yep, buckle up for another Waterproofing Wednesday, everyone!

Who will meet the deadline this time?

Well... things aren't looking great. The teams are already having issues.

In House 4, Kylie and Brad laid their sub floor before their leak-preventing puddle flange (yes, that is it's real name). To fix it, they need to remove all their floor sheets and start again.

Foreman Dan also finds a problem in Courtney and Grant's ensuite. They didn't insulate the recessed mirror space and now have to find a way to do it with the timber framing already in place. Not ideal!

Then there's Poolgate. Ricky and Haydn are unhappy with how close House 3 and House 4's pools are and think it gives them "by far the worst house on The Block", but Kylie and Brad want to keep things to plan.

The boys call architect Julian Brenchley – and immediately put their foot in it when Haydn asks if he's seen their house plans. Ah, yes, Haydn. He drew them.

It turns out Julian knows what he's doing and convinces the boys that their pool is in fact in the correct spot. They rejoice. Poolgate is over.

That's where their celebrations begin and end, however, because work on their ensuite has ground to a halt. Even Foreman Dan is frustrated by how little their builder has finished.

"I think he's doing the best he can," Ricky says. "I'm just not sure I've got the right guy for the job at the moment."

Mimi has by far the most fun job on The Block today. She heads to Camerich to spend the $100,000 voucher she and Kristian won in Week 1 and comes away with "everything".

Meanwhile, Kristian has been caught cutting more corners and has to pull down the board he's already placed on their ceiling.

"You're skipping steps," Dan tells him – and this isn't the first week that's happened.

Kristian is willing to try anything to have to avoid pulling down his ceiling sheets, even going behind Dan's back for a second opinion. Nothing works. He has no choice but to do it again.

Kristian tears up with frustration and declares he's "over it".

"Those inspections really get to ya," he says.

After two weeks of rough criticism from the judges, Kylie and Brad meet with Jack from Freedom for some styling advice.

Although she is apprehensive about it at first, Jack is very complimentary and provides great tips – and Kylie is thrilled to realise she's on the right track this week already!

It does wonders for her confidence and comes at a great time – they're also tracking the best for Waterproof Wednesday!

In fact, they're the only ones tracking towards Waterproof Wednesday at all.

Jesse and Paige's day has gone off course and Paige is very unsure about their floor-to-ceiling tiles (again).

And Ricky and Haydn have no hope after their builder runs off site at 5pm for a music concert. Ricky is fuming because the builder didn't tell him and instead just said he had something personal to deal with.

A rather drunk looking penguin (or is it just Foreman Dan in a furry suit?) arrives on site with very exciting news: IT'S TIME FOR OUR FIRST CHALLENGE!

Scotty and Shelly meet the teams at the Penguin Parade Visitor Centre, where the famous Phillip Island penguin parade takes place each night.

After a very special Welcome to Country, it's challenge time!

The teams must create a nesting box for the penguins and the team that makes the best one will win an incredible $5000 cash... and a bonus point penguin! This year, the penguin has replaced the all important Gnome, which can be played during the Room Reveal judging.

After designing, the Blockheads visit Mitre 10 for their materials and then realise... they have to build these things themselves.

As everyone gets to work, Ricky receives a worrying phone call. Their waterproofer had begun waterproofing something that wasn't approved and now everything has been shut down.

The phone call means Haydn must immediately leave their first Block challenge. Nine

Haydn races back to site while Ricky continues building a home for his favourite animal. There, he finds that things are even worse than he thought: their wall curve is completely non-compliant too.

Foreman Dan is mad that someone has gone behind his back to do this without approval and Haydn is gutted.

Haydn makes the decision to completely abandon the curve: "Let's just rip it out, square it, clean it," he decides.

"We've got a lead builder in to help us not only build, be a chippy, but to help us manage the entire project so very disappointed that we've got here," he says.

Back at the penguin sanctuary, it's judging time!

Senior research officer Paula likes Jesse and Paige's use of vegetation, but she doesn't know if the nesting box is very different to what the Nature Park currently has.

Courtney and Grant describe their mosaic terracotta roofed box as "a dog's breakfast", but Paula thinks it's "clever".

She's a big fan of Ricky and Haydn's teepee design, although the entrance is "a bit sad".

Kylie and Brad's round nesting box impresses Paula a lot and finally, she finds Kristian and Mimi's box lacking.

She announces her winner and it's... House 4, Kylie and Brad! They win the Bonus Point Penguin and $5000, but all the teams win the opportunity to watch the penguin parade in the flesh. Cute!

Unfortunately, Ricky and Haydn can't enjoy the cuteness because they're too busy worrying about their ensuite. They head back to site because if they don't waterproof tonight, it will be practically impossible to deliver a completed room this week.

"Waterproofing Thursday is still better than not waterproofing at all," Haydn says in a selfie video. "Welcome to The Block life, baby!"

He's ending Thursday with a smile, but tomorrow night that may quickly change, as Foreman Dan throws around the words "worst case scenario".

Can they pull through? We certainly hope so!

The Block airs Monday to Wednesday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 7pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
