The Block is back – and bigger than ever with a milestone 20th season.

Each week, our five teams' renovated rooms are critiqued by an esteemed panel of judges (and familiar faces); Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer and Marty Fox.

Stream the latest episodes of The Block for free on 9Now.

While some of the rooms receive high praise from the judges, others might not hit the mark.

Here, we take a look at the highs and lows of the judges' feedback each week – and trust us, there are some shockers and jewels this season.

The highs:

As if working with All Stars Ronnie and Georgia wasn't enough of a high, the judges' feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

They added a "game-changing" kids area complete with a trampoline and sandpit.

And their charming installment of a "Blockywood Hall of Fame" of tiles featuring Block star's name was a hit!

Over in the barbecue area, the judges were impressed by the "perfectly coastal design" and they were blown away by the amenity.

"We've got a pizza oven, we've got a barbeque, a sink," said Shaynna ticking all the boxes.

The lows:

The judges didn't have much to critique in the space but Darren noted a slight issue at one of the dining tables.

"If you're one of the two people sitting in the middle there," said Darren as he pointed to the middle of the bench seat.

"You've got to crawl underneath the table to go use the loo, right?"

Marty somewhat agreed but the compliments kept on coming.

The highs:

It was incredibly impressive how much amenity Courtney and Grant and their All Star teammates Steph and Gian packed in.

The day spa was complete with a heated slab, ice baths, saunas and a change room.

Marty believed the design was on par with high-end spas in major cities.

"It does feel like you could be anywhere in the world at any of the top day spas across the planet, it is up there with that quality," he declared.

Marty summed up the judges' thoughts: "It's a full experience to be able to have a sauna for up to eight people, double ice baths and private lockers.

"It's amazing. It's got the form, it's got the function. Tick, tick, tick."

The lows:

Darren hated to be the bad guy but he did have a small criticism of the execution in the day spa.

"The skirting is uneven and needs to be corked and the plaster work could be a little better," Darren pointed out.

Darren admitted that usually it wouldn't be such a big deal, but considering everything else in the space had been done by a tradesperson he would expect the one thing they were responsible for to be "perfect".

The lows:

We're going to start with the lows on this one.

The judges didn't have much in the way of negative feedback but it was a shame that Kylie and Brad weren't able to join All Stars Jimmy and Tam in renovating the Clubhouse Games Room.

Host Scott Cam confirmed Kylie and Brad weren't going to take part.

"Kylie and Brad are not returning," Scotty told the teams, following the couple's walkout of the front yard week judging.

Unfortunately, this meant the room was not eligible to win the huge prize of $50,000 off one team's Auction Day reserve.

The 2020 Block winners didn't expect to be contestants again – but they quickly got to work, alongside House 4 builder Benny, to ensure all parts of the Clubhouse were complete!

The highs:

The judges were struck but the unique colour palette and aesthetic but were surprised when they found themselves loving the brown and cream tones.

Marty thought design and function were well balanced in the space.

"You've got the bar, the games, the billiards, the footy on the TV – there's heaps of seating with the area.

"It's just so pracitical but it's not lacking on that design front. It is still stunning."

Can you peep the games in the corner of the image?

Darren gasped with excitement as Marty pointed out the game consoles, Pac-Man and a driving simulator.

Everyone will be running to this games room, that's for sure!

The highs:

The judges were blown away by the sheer size of the space that Ricky and Haydn delivered with the help of All Stars Eliza and Liberty.

"So there's 24 different Velux [skylights], two big a--e fans and a whole bunch of appeal!" Darren grinned, impressed.

In one of the biggest compliments ever given, Scotty told the boys back at HQ that Darren even felt a little "intimidated" as a designer after seeing their space.

The entire room was shook with the comment, with even Scott Cam saying: "What?!" as he read out the comment.

HIIIIGH praise!

"This is next level," Darren gushed.

The lows:

While she praised the styling before, she admitted it could have been taken up a notch.

Ricky, Haydn, Eliza and Liberty rolled their eyes and laughed at this comment back at HQ, as they'd all heard it before!

"I'm not a big fan of those two vases just sitting there..." Shaynna said, adding that it wasn't about spending money but there could have been a few more things added.

Kristian and Mimi's Clubhouse Cinema | Week 13

The highs:

Kristian and Mimi, with the help of All Stars Alisa and Lysandra, stopped the judges in their tracks with this cinema room.

They gave it the highest of praise.

"In 20 seasons of The Block... every single room and this is the last one we've seen, and it just happens to be the best we've EVER seen?" Darren said.

It doesn't get better than that!
