Exclusive: Adrian Portelli reveals 'it feels good' to purchase a Block home and shuts down rumours he was just a 'dummy bidder' at the 2022 auctions

Adrian Portelli narrowly missed out on purchasing House 5 during The Block auctions for 2022, after getting locked in a bidding war with Danny Wallis. 

But the entrepreneur has something to celebrate now. 

On Friday the Nine Network confirmed that Adrian had purchased Ankur and Sharon's House 3 for $4,250,000.

Adrian spoke exclusively with 9Entertainment and revealed how he's feeling about the big purchase and his unlikely plans for the home. 

"It feels good, it feels good, it wasn't the one we initially wanted but any Block house is a good Block house," he said. 

Adrian had inspected House 3 before The Block's auctions, but it was House 5 that he had his heart set on in the beginning. 

Putting an offer on Ankur and Sharon's house was something that only happened this week and he was very excited to make it happen. 

"I'm a very spontaneous person so yesterday when the real estate agent reached out to me, I think within 20 minutes we got the deal done," he explained.

There has been plenty of speculation that Adrian, who arrived to the auctions in a Lamborghini, was only there because he's mates with Omar and Oz. 

After his huge bids and back and forth battle with Danny, rumours started to swirl that he was just there to bump the price up as a dummy bidder – rumours he laughed at. 

"I'm definitely not a dummy bidder, it's just the price wasn't right so I backed out, that's what an auction is," he said.

Adrian has clearly put his money where is mouth is off the back of that statement, paying $4.25m for House 3, which gave Ankur and Sharon a profit of $170,000. 

"I'm not gonna keep bidding for a house that's overpriced," he continued. 

"And Sharon and Ankur's house was in the right price range so I bought it." 

Unlike a lot of others who buy Block homes as properties to live in or rent out, Adrian has a very different plan for House 3: he's giving it away.

"Through our business LMCT+ we're going to do a promotional giveaway on it so some lucky Aussie has the chance to win it," he explained.

After being pipped at the post when bidding reached over $5.5m for Omar and Oz's home, Adrian admitted that while it is exciting to have a Block home in his portfolio, it's also bittersweet. 

"It's exciting, we did eventually get one," he said.

"You know, if it gives the Australian public a chance to win one, it's a thing that a lot of people couldn't afford, it helps Sharon and Ankur out as well, then it's a win-win for everyone."
