The cast of The Talented Mr Ripley: Then and now
The Talented Mr. Ripley was a box office smash hit when it premiered 25 years ago in 1999.
Based on the 1955 thriller book of the same name by Patricia Highsmith, this film boasted an all-star cast with Hollywood heavyweights who are still well-known and successful today.
The film, set in the 1950s, follows young man Tom Ripley as he lies his way into the life of a rich millionaire playboy and his girlfriend.
Decades on, fans are being treated to a TV reboot entitled Ripley, with actor Andrew Scott at the helm.

Matt Damon: Then
Damon was fresh off the incredible Oscar win from his 1997 film Good Will Hunting when he was cast as the titular character, Tom Ripley, in the film.
Though he was already a roaring success, Damon almost didn't land the role – with it very nearly going to Leonardo DiCaprio.
"I threw my hat into the ring and begged for the job," Damon said at the time.
Matt Damon: Now
Damon had already reached huge stardom once the film was released, but he reached even new heights in the years following.
The actor, 53, has been playing the lead role in the Bourne franchise since 2002, nabbed major spots in Air, Invictus, The Martian, The Departed and more.
His starpower hasn't faded one bit. And he's also a family man, married to wife Luciana Barroso, and a daughter, Isabella.
Jude Law: Then
A young 27-year-old Jude Law played Dickie Greenleaf, a spoiled rich boy who lives with his girlfriend in sunny Sicily.
At the time, Law was relatively unknown. But that would all change once the film came out.
"Our actors had been catapulted into a level of stardom that they did not have when we shot the movie, so the audience was coming with a whole different lens of expectation," producer William Horberg told Vanity Fair in 2023.
This became Law's breakout role, but according to the publication, he actually rejected it several times.
"But [director Anthony Minghella] got really, really convinced that he couldn't make the movie without Jude, and his persistence paid off."
Gwyneth Paltrow: Then
Gwyneth Paltrow hadn't yet won her Oscar when she was filming The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Paltrow played Marge Sherwood, the girlfriend of Law's character and the subject of an awkward love triangle between Tom and Dickie.
Cate Blanchett: Then
Australian actress Cate Blanchett played the mysterious Meredith Logue, who bumps into Ripley upon his arrival in Sicily.
Like much of the cast, Blanchett was already experiencing major success thanks to her role in the 1998 film Elizabeth and subsequent Oscar nomination.
Cate Blanchett: Now
Blanchett, 54, is one of Australia's most successful actresses.
She's since become a Hollywood A-lister, with huge blockbusters to her name including Tar, Blue Jasmine and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Blanchett has been married to husband Andrew Upton since 1997 and the pair share four children.
Jack Davenport: Then
Jack Davenport played the aharcter of Peter-Smith Kingsley, which was written for the film and not included in the book.
Peter is a close friend of Dickie and Marge who helps Marge cope with the sudden disappearance of Dickie.
Jack Davenport: Now
The English actor, 51, went on to play Admiral James Norrington in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
He also scored a role in Kingsman: The Secret Service and the TV series The Morning Show.
Philip Seymour Hoffman: Then
Philip Seymour Hoffman played Freddie Miles, an arrogant womanising friend of Dickie who Tom envies.
