Taylor Swift has called out fellow country music star Brad Paisley for a prank that left her unable to sleep for months two decades ago.

Swift, 36, made the light-hearted comment during her induction into the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, handed to her by Paisley on Monday.

Before addressing her induction, the singer took the chance to joke about the pairs “estrangement” due to a prank he pulled on her tour bus in 2007.

“Thank you so much Brad Paisley for that induction, I’m surprised to see you here, we’ve been estranged since 2007… I think you know why,” she said, while glancing to the left of the stage where he was standing.

“He took a tour prank too far and filled my entire tour bus with live crickets, thousands of them – for months I couldn’t sleep, it was just ‘Chirp, chip chirp,’ all night. I considered buying a pet lizard to eradicate the problem.

“But you know what... you did such an amazing job with that introduction that I think we can let bygones be bygones.”

The 14-time Grammy award-winning artist then got into her speech, explaining what she has learned in her years of songwriting.

“One thing that I did learn is that songwriters, although they possess a superhuman ability to understand and interpret the human condition and like insane levels of empathy, they are just people too, and they are people who are in a lot of ways raised me and guided me through formative years,” she said, according to People Magazine.

She also said she had been “very fortunate,” in her career so far. “I’ve gotten to genre-hop and travel the world and write with so many different people and in so many different ways,” she continued.

“And the only reason that I’ve been able to have that kind of dexterity in my creative process is because of the fundamentals and the foundation that I learned here in Nashville, and I never forget that for a single second.

“I tell every single person I know about what we have here, and I’m so incredibly honoured to be inducted into this sacred club, especially at this point in my life.

“It’s not lost on me how crazy this is, and I will cherish it forever because Nashville is the place that honed and polished this thing about myself and the thing about my life that I am the most proud of and the most passionate about.”

Swift is the youngest musician to ever be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Following the ceremony, Swift posed for pictures with Paisley and his wife on the red carpet, making it clear there’s no bad blood between them.

It is not the only honour that has been bestowed upon swift this year. In April, The New York Times named Swift one of the 30 Greatest living American Songwriters.
