'My heart is broken': Mariah Carey reveals her mother and sister passed away on the same day 'in a tragic turn of events'
Mariah Carey is mourning the loss of two family members, with the star revealing her mother and sister passed away on the same day over the weekend.
The hitmaker, 55, confirmed the devastating news in a statement to People, calling it an ''impossible time".
"My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," Carey said about her mother Patricia and sister Alison.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed."
"I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time," she added.
After news of the deaths broke, Carey's fans flocked to her latest post on Instagram to send her their condolences.

"Sorry for the loss of your mother and sister," one fan commented.
Another added: "Mariah I'm heartbroken for your loss. As someone who lost her mom recently, I use your music to help cope. Still I miss her everyday. Praying and sending so much love your way."
Mariah previously spoke about her relationship with her singer mother in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, as reported by People.

She also wrote a dedication to her mother in her book which reportedly read: "And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could," she wrote. "I will love you the best I can, always."
She also reportedly had a complicated relationship with her sibling over the years.
