Reality star Vicki Gunvalson has tearfully recalled a health battle that left her with a "10 to 20 percent" chance of survival.

The Real Housewives of Orange County star, 62, opened up on My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast, which she appeared on alongside her partner Michael who helped recall her story.

Gunvalson explained she was hospitalised and diagnosed with pneumonia and sepsis, which according to the Cleveland Clinic, is "your body's extreme reaction to an infection".

"[The specialist] said, 'the sepsis that went to your body is deadly, and you survived it, you're going to be ok, but it'll take a while'... Michael has been incredible giving me my medicine," Gunvalson said.

After suffering amnesia amid her battle, Gunvalson recalled: "I was so sick, so sick. I'm so grateful that all the things that could have happened didn't happen."

"What happened, I'm no doctor, but the way they explained it is that when your body is fighting that big of an infection and that dangerous of an infection, your whole body attacks it, which affects the brain and everything else in your body because your body sends everything it has to fight it."

"It was scary because she didn't know where she was... we're glad she's ok."

One incident she and Michael explained was that she almost passed out at home in a bath - and the reality star said she "would have probably died" if it weren't for the pair.
