‘Not a good sign’: Kyle Sandilands shares harrowing update on brain aneurysm

Kyle Sandilands′ health has been an ongoing issue and in one of the most intimate looks at his life yet, as he went to the doctor for an update on his brain aneurysm. 

The 55-year-old shock jock stepped out of the doctor’s office with the results in hand and admitted it wasn’t good. 

In the latest episode of Building The Show on his Kyle Sandilands Live platform the team documented the appointment that he had been putting off for months. 

“So, today’s the day I’ve been dreading,” Sandilands said of the appointment. 

The former radio host explained that doctors told him initially the best plan of action was to leave it because it was more dangerous to operate, with the risk of a stroke, when he was first diagnosed in early 2025. 

“Well, it’s grown a little bit, which isn’t great news,” he said as he walked out of the doctor’s office. 

In a follow-up interview filmed at his desk in the studio he gave more details about the aneurism. 

“So I come out of the doctor’s office and unfortunately the aneurism has gotten bigger, 1mm bigger,” he said. 

“Which seems small, but I didn’t want to get that, that wasn’t the thing I wanted to hear. I was hoping – and in my mind – I thought ‘I’ve got this, I’m gonna make it smaller,’ but it was bigger. 

“Not big enough yet for them to operate, but not a good sign moving forward.”

Sandilands said he does now feel like surgery is inevitable now. 

“That is terrifying to me,” he added.

Despite the aneurism getting bigger, he said the doctor is still not ready to operate yet because right now, it’s more dangerous to try and remove it, rather than leave it there. 

“A life of bad choices has probably led me here,” he reflected. 

“I’m full of regret. I do not want to die and I do not want to be carved up.” 

At that moment his phone rang, with his wife Teagan and son Otto on the other end, and the tone quickly flipped back to fatherhood and showed a lighter side of him despite the sombre nature of the episode. 

Sandilands addressed his health during his Tuesday morning show, when newsreader Brooklyn Ross bought it up.

The aneurysm, which has grown 1mm, was originally 4mm in size, making it a 25 per cent increase.

Ross urged Sandilands to give up smoking, but he pushed back and it kicked off a big debate in the whole studio.

Sandilands first shared the news of his brain aneurysm diagnosis on the former Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS in February 2025.

“On Friday, I was told by my medical team, which sounds like I’m already very sick, to have a medical team, that I have a brain aneurysm and it requires immediate attention, brain surgery,” he announced on air at the time.

“If you just tuned in to us after all these years, lap it up. And if you’re in Melbourne… you’re coming to the party too late. You may get your wish. I may be dead.”

Sandilands explained it wasn’t a blockage, rather that the blood vessel is like a garden hose and the hose is weak and there’s a blister with a big bubble. The bubble is the aneurysm, so it’s not blocked.

At the time the shock jock thought he would need surgery, but it has not happened yet, with doctors still monitoring the size of the aneurysm.
