Kim Kardashian allegedly had a gun held to her head during a terrifying 2018 trip to Uganda with her then-husband, Kanye West, according to her biographer Jonathan Van Meter.

Van Meter described the alleged incident as “the point of no return” for exes Kardashian, 46, and West, 49, in his authorised biography Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future.

“Farnaz Farjam, the executive producer of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, told me that she first realised how bad things were for the couple during a 2018 trip to Africa,” Van Meter writes in the book, released on Tuesday.

“They were shooting at a remote location in Uganda when Kanye became paranoid and agitated,” Farjam recalled to the author.

According to the book, Farjam told Van Meter: “He basically got the local police to believe that there were people trying to drug him, and so they came, and they had guns out. He had them raid everybody’s rooms.”

Van Metre writes that during the alleged raid, “one of the policemen had a gun to Kim’s head”.

Farjam described the ordeal as “intense” and recalled Kim “ended up having to get a private jet and get the crew out of there”.

Van Meter wrote that Farjam “forgave Kanye for the Africa fiasco ‘because he lives with bipolar disorder and he was in a manic place’.”

Kardashian and West were together for a decade, first dating in 2011, marrying in 2014 and divorcing in 2022. Together they have four children North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, eight, and Psalm, seven.

Van Meter’s book Citizen Kim is a culmination of over five years of interviews with and observations of Kardashian.

It includes numerous revelations about Kardashian’s marriage and current relationship with West.

“I worry about him all day. That’s the father of my kids. I’ll never not worry about him,” Kardashian told the Van Meter of her rapper ex-husband.

“I do everything in my power to forget about all the negative things that happened. I have to be realistic, and my therapist definitely tells me, ‘Your boundaries have to go up,’ but we manage to co-parent without too much conflict.”

Kardashian admitted that co-parenting with someone who only visits every few months is a challenging.

“I’m always like, ‘Oh, Dad’s travelling.’ I still make up stories and protect [the kids] because I want them to think their dad is the greatest. But I invite him over all the time. ‘Do you want to come to dinner? I’ll leave the house. Come and have dinner with the kids in their house so that they can feel comfy. Sleep over for a few nights?’”

“I will sweep everything under the rug, all the horrible things he has said about me, so that the kids can see their father,” Kardashian added.

Van Meter did not interview West for the biography. As West’s mental health struggles worsened he did not believe it would be the right thing to do.

Kardashian described her co-parenting relationship with West as challenging noting her ex-husband doesn’t often visit.  Instagram

“Kim initially said, ‘Of course he’s going to talk to you.’ But as his behaviour grew more troubling, I didn’t think it would be ethical to interview somebody in the middle of a mental health crisis,” Van Meter previously told The Hollywood Reporter.
