Kyle Sandilands says he believes his former co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson’s claim she was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of their time on-air together, even though he does not necessarily understand it.

Sandilands, 55, opened up about learning Henderson had made the claim in an affidavit made public by the Federal Court during an interview on Samantha Armytage’s interview series Act Two.

“To hear that about yourself, it’s so hard to comprehend when that’s not your experience at all and not your feelings at all,” he said.

Sandilands said he believed “that’s her truth”, because he understood people could have different interpretations and experiences in the same scenario.

“So what my experience was, or my feelings were may have been very different in the exact same room in the same situation that Jackie was going through,” he continued.

“She’s not someone who makes up stories and I don’t believe she, and this could be another stupid thing for me, but I don’t believe she would make up a story about me like that that could hugely affect my career and earning potential if it wasn’t true to her.”

But while he believed her account, it was difficult for him to understand as it was so different to the experience of others.

“All of the staff came with me, so what sort of mental case – all the staff followed the guy who was such a horrible bully? It just wasn’t true in all of our worlds. We couldn’t comprehend where this has come from,” he said.

“That’s the confusing part because I know she’s not a liar and I know she wouldn’t make this up because it’s a huge accusation to make.”

In August, excerpts of an affidavit were made public in which a psychiatrist stated Henderson suffered (PTSD) as a result of working alongside Sandilands as well as KIIS FM and ARN’s failure to protect Henderson from such behaviour.

He previously called that claim “soul-destroying”.

“I just fell apart this morning, crying in the shower like a big sook,” he said on his Kyle Sandilands Live show.

“It was really very, very, very upsetting to read terrible things like that about yourself and obviously it’s her truth.

“But that is so against what the reality of what happened was. It’s soul-destroying.”

The Kyle and Jackie O Show ended on KIIS FM in March, weeks after an on-air spat left Henderson saying she could no longer work with Sandilands and didn’t feel safe in the workplace. It left ARN ripping up the pair’s $200 million 10-year contract just one year in.

The argument at the end of February over Henderson’s love of astrology seemed minor in comparison with other blows the pair had experienced on air in the past.

A civil trial between Henderson and her former employer was set to begin on October 12 but has been delayed until April 2027.

Henderson is suing the radio giant for unlawful termination of her $100 million contract after refusing to work with her volatile co-host.

Sandilands similarly sued ARN over the abrupt end of his contract but settled for $12.09 million before the case went to trial.
