‘Not within our hands’: Radio host Lorren Barry breaks down in tears as she confirms show is ending
Aussie radio duo Nic Kelly and Loren Barry have emotionally confirmed that Hot Hits won’t be returning in 2027.
Barry broke down in tears as they made the announcement on air on Tuesday, revealing that she will be leaving the company entirely along with the end of their show.

“We do have some news to share,” she started.
“Next year, this show won’t be coming back with us and I will be leaving the company completely at this stage.”
Barry explained it’s been a difficult thing to “make peace with” because “we’re so proud of what we’ve done with this show, what we’ve created.”
She explained that they’ve poured so much hard work into the show, but now they’ve had to accept that the future isn’t in their control.
“It’s not within our hands,” she continued.
She finished and said that she didn’t really know what else to add, and Kelly told her that he thought she had summed it up nicely.
“We got told yesterday that this was happening, obviously pretty shattering for both of us, but this is the radio industry and it happens to all of us at some point,” Kelly said.
“It’s changing very quickly, and it’s tough… but as you said this show has been my dream space.
“I wanted to do the nighttime show when I was 13 years old, and then I gave up on that dream and then it came back as an opportunity to do it when I least expected it.
“And it's been nothing short of the greatest honour of my career.”
Kelly added that he’s so proud of the artists they’ve been able to showcase on the show and the air time they’ve been able to give their first commercial play.

He then turned his attention to his co-host and said, “I'm absolutely shattered for you, because I think you deserve a microphone and Australia deserves to get to hear you.
“And what you have to say every single day.
“You have obviously been the light of my goddamn life the last couple of years, and you have brought me nothing but joy.”
He went on to thank their production team and the rest of the people supporting them and making the show happen behind the scenes.
The emotional segment was posted on their Instagram account.

“Nic and Loren have an update to share about the future of our show,” read the caption of the post.
“We are full of gratitude for everything this show has been, to us, to you and to artists. There’ll be more to say at the right time, but for now, we love you and thank you ❤️.”
Listeners filled the comments with their disbelief that the show was over.
It’s just the latest huge change in what seems to be a radio bloodbath, with plenty of shows not returning or hosts leaving networks in recent weeks.
Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little are departing the Hit Network, Will and Woody will also be leaving KIIS.
