Katy Perry breaks silence Orlando Bloom split: ‘Last year was really hard’

Katy Perry has spoken publicly about her split from ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom last June, with the news breaking amid her Lifetimes Tour. 

Perry, 41, and Bloom, 49, split after almost a decade together and she admitted “last year was really hard” being on tour as her marriage ended during an interview with People. 

The Teenage Dream singer kicked off the tour in April 2025, and just months later in July her reps confirmed she and her fiancé had split. 

At the time Perry was in the country for the Australian leg of her tour and admitted she struggled as it all played out.

“It was probably the hardest time. My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away,” Perry said of her lowest point. 

“But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”

Perry kept performing through that difficult time and said she “learned how to step back into [her] purpose.”

For the Firework hitmaker, she believes she got something incredible out of the tour. 

“And I got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life,” she said, in reference to her boyfriend, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. 

Perry explained she got to meet him on tour, and things shifted. 

The singer, who is a firm believer in manifestation, wrote down a list last August and revealed that she still keeps that list tucked inside the case of her phone. 

She pulled it out during the interview and read, “Number 10 just says, ‘True Love.’ And I think that’s where we’re at”.

Perry and Trudeau, 54, were first linked romantically when they were spotted enjoying a dinner together in Montreal in Canada, shortly after her split from Bloom was confirmed. 

In October they went public and stepped out for her birthday in Paris and just months ago in June, they made their first red carpet appearance at the Tribeca Festival premiere of the concert film Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour - Live from Paris. 

Trudeau’s support for her career has continued in recent months, with the former politician spotted in the crowd at 10 of her 20 recent shows across Europe. 

“He knows the words, he’s supportive, and he’s in awe; it’s super healing,” Perry said. 

“He is really heart-centered, and I think that we align in that way. I’m so grateful.”

Perry and Bloom started dating in 2016, and got engaged on Valentines Day in 2019. 

They went on to welcome their daughter, Daisy Dove, in 2020. 

Meanwhile, Trudeau separated from his wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023. The former couple share three children, Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien.
