In pictures: Female celebrities who proposed to their partners
2024 is a leap year and February 29 officially marks Leap Day.
A leap year is a year with 366 days instead of 365, the extra day falling on February 29 when every other year the month would end on February 28.
Leap year proposals are probably the biggest and most well-known traditions; in Ireland and Britain there's a long-running tradition of women proposing to men in leap years, and especially on February 29 itself.
Believed to have originated in fifth century Ireland, this was traditionally the only day a woman could propose, and it was unwise for a man to refuse.
With that being said, let's take a look at all the female stars who have proposed to their partners over the years.

Pink and husband Carey Hart
In 2005, breaking gender norms in the best way possible, Pink proposed to now-husband Carey Hart during the Pro 250 class finals in California.
While Hart was racing, she held out a sign that read "Will you marry me?"
Which she later added "serious" to, he stopped mid-race to accept her proposal.
The following year the pair tied the knot in Costa Rica in an intimate non-denominational ceremony. People reported the wedding was held on a beach sunset at the Four Seasons resort.
"We just love the beach, so we knew we wanted it to be at the beach," Pink told the publication.
Kat Dennings
2 Broke Girls star Kat Dennings recently revealed that she and her rocker husband Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier, or Andrew W.K., actually proposed to each other at the same time.
Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, Dennings said the moment was simply "magical".
"We had a special moment that makes me believe in magic," Dennings said.
"We were doing kissing, and we had, like, a shared feeling. I felt this intense…thing that I was like, 'This is my person. This is it. I can't live without him. This is the man I'm supposed to be with.' And we looked at each other, and we both proposed at the same time."
"We just were like 'Should we get married?' And 'Yes.' I just burst into tears."
Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson
Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson tied the knot in 2019.
But it was actually the British actress' idea to get married.
"Did you guys always know that you were going to get married?" Jimmy Fallon asked Jason.
"I knew the moment she asked me!" Jackson responded.
"She asked me on New Year's Eve. We're in Nicaragua, it's very beautiful, incredibly romantic, we're walking down the beach and she asked me to marry her."
Unfortunately for the pair, they announced their divorce last year.
Elizabeth Taylor
Late film great Elizabeth Taylor once proposed to Michael Wilding, according to The Guardian.
She had seven husbands before her death at 79 in Los Angeles in 2011.
Haley Lu Richardson and Brett Dier
White Lotus star Haley Lu Richardson happily asked Brett Dier to marry her.
They had been together for seven years at the time of the question.
"I just asked," she said on Busy Tonight.
"Neither of us are, like, crazy romantic people, so nothing was planned."
She said he was in the middle of telling a joke and: "I just cut him off and was like, 'Wanna marry me?'"
The pair announced their split in 2022.
Sarah Snook and Dave Lawson
Succession star Sarah Snook revealed he proposed to now husband Dave Lawson in her Brooklyn backyard. They had been friends for years but never "single at the same time".
She told Vogue magazine: "At the beginning of the pandemic last year, I got locked down in Melbourne with one of my best mates and we fell in love."
"I proposed and we got married in February [2021] in my backyard."
"We had matching Blunnies [Blundstone shoes]."
Diane Von Furstenberg and Barry Diller
Iconic fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg told O magazine that she actually proposed to husband Barry Diller.
"One year I didn't know what to give him for his birthday," she said.
"And I called him and said, 'You know, if you want, for your birthday I'll marry you.' And he said, 'Let me see if I can arrange it.' It's what he always says, and he always arranges it. A week later we married at City Hall, and he gave me—this is so Barry— he gave me 26 wedding rings, for the 26 years we had not been married," she reportedly said.
