Pop stars of the noughties: Then and now
Ah, the noughties (or the early 2000s) was an incredible time for music.
The start of the 2000s saw some of the biggest stars launch their music careers and rise to international fame, including the likes Rihanna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Mandy Moore.

Jessica Simpson: Then
Jessica Simpson was a teenager when she burst onto the music scene and released her debut album back in 1999.
She enjoyed much success in the early 2000s, releasing songs including Take My Breath Away, With You and I Wanna Love You Forever.
The Texas-born singer was known for her incredible voice, mega-watt smile and bouncy hair.
Jessica Simpson: Now
She went on to star on the reality TV show called Newlyweds with now ex-husband Nick Lachey.
Simpson's innocent question to her husband after confusing tinned tuna for chicken during an episode of the show went down in pop culture infamy.
"Is this chicken, what I have, or is this fish? I know it's tuna, but it says 'Chicken by the Sea'," she remarked, to viewers' astonishment, in reference to a US brand of tinned seafood.
Now 44, she is married to former NFL star Eric Johnson.
Simpson has built a fashion empire on the back of her successful music career.
Britney Spears: Then
Britney Spears was dubbed the ''Princess of Pop'' in her hey day.
The singer, who grew up in Louisiana, was part of The All-New Mickey Mouse Club where she got a taste of performing before cracking the big time.
She soon went on to become one of the highest-selling artists of all time thanks to singles including ...Baby One More Time, Everytime, Outrageous, and Toxic.
She also had a highly-publicised romance with Justin Timberlake in their early music careers.
Britney Spears: Now
Spears' controversial conservatorship officially ended in November 2021.
She recently released a memoir, called Britney Spears: The Woman In Me.
In her book, she speaks about her iconic performance of her hit track I'm a Slave 4 U, at the 2001 MTV VMAs with a live python resting on her shoulders.
In an excerpt from her memoir, the star has revealed that while she looked calm and collected on stage, the performance was "terrifying" in reality.
"All I knew was to look down, because I felt if I looked up and caught its eye, it would kill me," Spears wrote.
Christina Aguilera: Then
Christina Aguilera is one of the biggest pop stars of her generation who technically released her hit single Genie In a Bottle in 1999 off her debut studio album - but went on to have huge success in the early 2000s.
Aguilera is known for her impressive vocals.
In 2002, she dropped her squeaky clean image for a bit of a rebrand when she entered her Dirrty era.
Rising to fame hasn't come without rumours or controversy though.
The feud between Pink and Christina Aguilera is one of the biggest – and most highly publicised – celebrity tiffs of all time.
For years, the pair have been pitted against one another after meeting on the set of the film clip for their 2001 hit Lady Marmalade, which also featured Lil' Kim and Mya.
Pink once alleged Aguilera "swung" at her in a club when they were ''super young and new".
In recent years, the pair have both shot down rumours of a feud when probed, with Pink recently saying they had ''made amends".
Rihanna: Then
Robyn Rihanna Fenty burst onto the scene in 2005 with her debut studio album Music of the Sun, which produced hits including Pon de Replay and If It's Lovin' that You Want.
She rose to fame after being signed by Jay-Z – and the rest is history.
Rihanna: Now
After releasing tracks including Umbrella, Live Your Life and Disturbia, Rihanna is now a beauty mogul and mother.
She is said to be worth a whopping $(US)1.4 billion, thanks to her music and successful Fenty Beauty brand.
Last year, she made a brief but epic return to music by performing at the Super Bowl half time show in front of a reported 121 million viewers.
Hilary Duff: Then
Hilary Duff is no doubt the queen of the noughties and millennials!
She rose to fame for playing Lizzie McGuire on the hit Disney show of the same name from 2001 - 2004, which soon turned into a film.
The A Cinderella Story star also released some music in the early 2000s, setting her sights on being a pop star. This wasn't just a dabble in music, she managed to successfully launch her singing career.
Some of her popular tracks include So Yesterday and Come Clean – used as the theme song on the iconic Laguna Beach.
HIlary Duff: Now
These days, Duff juggles her busy career - making movies, shows and music - while being a mum.
Now 36, she released her most recent album in 2015.
In recent years, she's starred in shows including How I Met Your Father and Younger.
