'Are we meant to be crying?': Andy Lee's surprise announcement leaves fans 'in tears'

Andy Lee is used to making Aussies laugh as a beloved comedian, but his latest announcement has left fans emotional.

The Hundred host is turning his popular children's books into a highly anticipated animated series.

While fans can expect "a heap of great cameos" in the show, one special guest has been a clear "favourite" – for a touching reason.

Taking to Instagram, Andy shared a behind-the-scenes clip from a recent voice recording session.

"We have a heap of great cameos in my animation 'Do Not Watch This Show'," he began. "My favourite is Bonnie."

Andy revealed that he works closely with Challenge, a children's charity who provide support for kids with cancer and their families.

"At just two years old, Bonnie was diagnosed with a brain tumour," Andy wrote.

"She has been battling with it ever since but her dream of being an actor has never faded."

In his video, which you can watch below, Andy is seen practicing lines with young Bonnie as one unexpected moment captured hearts everywhere:

"She effortlessly passed the audition process, beating out Sarah Snook, to star as the Jellyfish in Episode 10 'Fart'," he went on.

"Congrats on a superb performance Bon x."

After recording her lines, Bonnie sat with Andy and her mum as she watched back the animation.

That's when fans noticed one incredibly sweet detail.

"Tears instantly when she grabbed your hand," wrote one follower in the comments section.

"The holding of the hand at the end is beautiful," said another.

"Are we meant to be crying 😭❤️," commented one viewer on behalf of fans everywhere.

"That's so beautiful and reaching for your hand. You were awesome Bonnie 💕," congratulated a fourth.

The new kids' TV show, Do Not Watch This Show, is an adaptation of Andy's beloved Do Not Open This Book children's series.

Speaking on TODAY earlier this month, Andy said the adaptation was the "natural next step" in his career, a project he's been working on for six years.

"It's been so much fun to make," Andy revealed in between a week of school visits, a world premiere, breakfast TV shows and many interviews.

Andy voices the main character in the show, a blue monster called Wizz.

He's joined by Travel Guides narrator Denise Scott as the voice of Tortoise, along with The Hundred regulars Joel Creasey and Dave Hughes who both have recurring roles in the fun comedy series.

Do Not Watch This Show is far from Andy's only venture lately, coming after the comedian opened an Aussie-themed pub in the heart of New York City in March 2025.

Along with three of his best mates, he also launched his own premium dim sim range perfectly named Dimmies and Tinnies in April.

This was all while hosting Season 8 of The Hundred, which aired its season finale in May, and working on his and Bec's Melbourne renovations.

Andy and Bec are currently renovating Ravenswood, a beautiful 1876 Melbourne River property they purchased in November 2023.
