The most unfinished rooms in the history of The Block

When Marty Fox walked into Ricky and Haydn's main ensuite this week he dubbed it "the most unfinished room in Block history".
While there was no arguing that the boys' room was far from complete, it wasn't the most unfinished room The Block had ever seen.

Back at Block HQ, host Scott Cam rattled off a list he titled the "Hall of Shame" and it included the names of contestants in years gone by who presented spaces that looked like they were still in the demo phase.
Here we take a look back at all of the rooms teams never managed to finish in time for Room Reveals.

Josh and Luke's Garage, Study and Wine Cellar | 2021
While the living and dining rooms weren't up for judging, Shaynna, Darren and Neale had to walk through them to get to the study and wine cellar.
They were stopped in their tracks by the dark Venetian plaster on the fireplace wall, as well as the mess.
"That is beyond ugly," Neale said.
"What have they done?" Shaynna wondered.
Kristy and Brett's Studio Bathroom | 2023
In 2023, Kristy and Brett presented judges with an incomplete bathroom, and ironically it was redo room.
It was quite a journey for the couple who had gone from fixing a complete room to delivering a space that left the judges in disbelief.
Darren was utterly shocked by the state of the room walking in saying "nope" and then shutting the door.
Shaynna didn't even want to read the Post-It notes Kristy and Brett had written.
"You know what, when I walk in and see a room like this, and I see Post-Its like this, they're in the bin," she said as she tossed them... in the bin.
"I don't want to know about it, I don't want excuses."
Max and Karstan's Guest Bedroom | 2014
After a bunch of trades went "missing in action", Max and Karstan delivered a guest bedroom still with exposed frames.
"That's a bit of a different look," Neale said walking in.
Credit where credit is due, at least they styled a bed to give the judges an idea of where they were headed.
Max and Karstan's Guest Bedroom | 2014
Max and Karstan had hoped the judges "had a heart" and felt some empathy for them.
But Shaynna had other ideas.
"The other couples have a finished wardrobe and blinds and The Block has been going for long enough to know that if something happens you find a solution," she preached.

The judges were amused by a note Max and Karstan left on the wall. It read:
"Dear judges, a spectacular cabinet is supposed to be in this position.
"However unfortunately our cabinet maker is MIA!
"We hope you love our room as much as we do!
"P.S. Our blind supplier is also missing in action."
Ricky and Haydn's Main Ensuite | 2024
And of course Ricky and Haydn were inducted into Scotty's Hall of Shame this week with their unfinished main ensuite.
Look at those sad faces!
Ricky and Haydn's Main Ensuite | 2024
"It was a brutal week," Scotty said at Block HQ.
Ricky then explained what they had in mind for their space.
"Massive 2.8 metre-high ceilings, an enormous skylight... we were really confident we could win this week," he said.
Wary of what the judges were about to see, he added: "If this isn't the Sunday roasting of a lifetime..."

"What the fudge is this?" Shaynna said, gawking at the space. "It doesn't take a week to paint a door!"
Her face dropped completely, as did Marty's. "You're kidding me," he said.
"Like... what on earth has happened here?"
"I feel sick for them," Shaynna said.
On a positive note, Scotty told the boys the judges thought the layout was "awesome".
"I can already see just from a planning perspective, everything is in the right spot. That would have been a double feature shower, double vanity to the left, a toilet tucked in behind the right," Marty explained.
The Block airs Sunday at 7.00pm and Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now.
