Kristian and Mimi went into Week 2 of The Block feeling confident after an impressive win last week.

But that quickly took a knock as Kristian cutting corners came back to bite them... multiple times.

The pair had to re-do their insulation (twice) as well as the lagging of a pipe. They also faced problems with their Kinsman wardrobe because Kristian failed to forward plan for the plumbing of the upstairs bathroom.

Plus, they found themselves in real hot water when he forged Foreman Dan's signature on a demolition permit.

Not the greatest week! However, the pair still pulled together a guest bedroom they could be proud of.

Would the judges also like it? Scroll through to find out.

Kristian and Mimi overcame all the obstacles this week to deliver a room they considered "a statement".

"I'm pretty confident going into tonight," Kristian reflected.

In total, the room cost $11,730 – just a touch under their $12,000 budget.

Things didn't get off to a great start.

Darren had to work hard to get through the room's 'sticky' door.

"Haven't had to shoulder charge a door in a while!" Shaynna said.

At HQ, Scotty asked if the couple knew there was a problem with the door. They nodded.

"We left it open," Kristian said.

"[It] don't work like that!" Scotty replied with a laugh.

The key feature of Kristian and Mimi's room was the asymmetry of their bed head and wooden wall paneling.

Darren felt it was "design for design's sake", but he had to admit it worked.

"This is a very high caliber," he said.

"This is another level," Marty agreed.

Shaynna loved that the asymmetry extended to the lighting, with a bedside lamp on one side of the bed and pendant light on the other.

She also adored the use of texture in the room, including the rug.

"I love the fact that we've got the porta timber which connects to the bathroom," she said.

In Week 1, Kristian and Mimi used this same design on a portion of their guest bathroom's ceiling.

"This is classic [and] elegant, with a slight quirk," Shaynna praised.

Marty also raved about how well House 5's two rooms complemented each other.

"When a buyer walks through and they duck into that bathroom, walk into here – I mean, as a downstairs master alternative this really ticks the boxes because it does feel very high-end," he said.

To Shaynna, the room wasn't saying 'beach', but it was saying 'boutique hotel'.

"Boutique coastal hotel?" Marty asked.

"Yes!" she replied.

The judges believed the build quality was "excellent, again", according to Scotty.

They also thought the Kinsman wardrobes were stunning and loved the complementary colour palette.

"It's quite clever because [outside the window] is going to be like a little private garden there," Shaynna said.

"So it's got green, green, green. If they plant that out beautifully with more green, it's like it's being enveloped.

"I just feel, this is a boutique hotel in Phillip Island."
