Highlights:
Amédée Island is an easy 45 minute boat ride from the New Caledonian capital of Noumea.
The same family have been running day trips to the island for over 40 years and captain Celine assures Catriona that she will see a turtle at some point during the day!
The day trip is very popular with tourists and locals alike. A lot of activities are included in the costs, including transfers, and lunch, so all you really need are your swimmers, a towel and your sunscreen!
Optional extra activities include entry and a climb up the 247 steps of the historic lighthouse for amazing views, hiring a paddle board, or snorkel gear.
Catriona hit the fabulous turquoise waters of the world’s biggest lagoon. The heritage listed marine reserve has a huge array of tropical fish, coral, and yes, turtles!
She was delighted her wish came true and she got to swim with the incredible protected creatures.
All the excitement of the morning left her hungry, and fortunately an exotic French Polynesian buffet lunch was on offer. Lunchtime entertainment featured fire performers and the famous island dancing ladies. Everyone was invited to join in on the fun.
In the afternoon there were demonstrations of sarong tying and coconut tree climbing. Catriona joined the glass bottom boat tour, where you can see even more marine life without getting your feet wet.
There really is something for everyone on the island, and just before Catriona boarded the boat back to Noumea, she sent her Mum a postcard from the island’s post office - the smallest in France!
