Alfresco and Stratco Shed Week on The Block was "one of the hardest" for Han and Can

With hardly any cash left in the bank, they were relying on a Room Reveal win last week. But when they fell short by half a point they were left very, very broke.

House 2 tried not to let their dwindling funds stop them from achieving their vision and so they took on a lot of the labour themselves.

Han and Can admitted they could've done less to conserve what money that had left but it's just not in their spirit.

They wanted to "do something extra, go a bit beyond" and so they set their sights on turning their shed into an art studio and included a Zen garden in their alfresco space.

Can's favourite element was the Zen garden.

"It will make quite a statement about what this home is going to offer, which is peacefulness, tranquillity and a welcoming and inviting vibe," she said.

"I would love this home. I would love to be able to afford it. I would love to live here."

Would the judges feel the same?

Walking into the alfresco area the judges focused on what House 2 didn't have rather than what they did.

"They don't have those outdoor blinds which is such a selling feature and there's no heating out here," Darren pointed out.

Despite some of the shortcomings, Shaynna felt the zen garden made up for it.

"The design here is absolutely incredible, elegant, classy," she raved.

But Marty couldn't have disagreed more.

Marty had the exact opposite view about the Zen garden and thought it was a total waste of space.

He thought it took away from the amenity buyers would be looking for and thought extra decking and seating would've been more useful.

"I think that that is a big miss," he declared.

Shaynna stepped in to bat for the girls and thought there was ample seating and even noted the couch was a better choice than House 1's.

Plus she was a fan of the colour scheme. Bonus points!

Despite Shaynna's best efforts to pick out what was right, she felt that Han and Can had "never been able to sell the dream".

The alfresco area felt "unfinished" to Shaynna and it was.

The tiles were not grouted and Can never really got around to styling.

Darren spotted another big no no – the back of the barbecue was on full display.

"That should never be on show. They are not designed to be viewed that way," he pointed out.
