'I didn't think I'd be like that': Mimi and Kristian on what competition on the Block really feels like

Tight deadlines, sleepless nights, and passions over personal styles coming up against comments from judges – it all makes The Block a recipe for fierce competition. 

Unsurprisingly this season is no exception, as House 5's Kristian and Mimi told Shelley Craft on The Official Block Podcast.

"What I like about our season is that everyone backs their house – everyone is so competitive because they love their house and they're proud of what they've done," Mimi shared. 

What did come as a bit of a surprise, however, was how Mimi reacted to her second win.

Shelley was quick to ask Mimi about this, saying: "You even had a little bit of a cry after the judging the other night, you didn't really celebrate your second win, you said you felt bad – why was that?" 

Mimi's response highlights another side to The Block – it's not just competition, it's fierce camaraderie as well.

"I didn't think I'd be like that" Mimi explains, "but I have created these incredible relationships with all the other contestants.

"We know how hard it is to finish a room in a week. We know the blood, sweat, and tears that go into every single week. I felt bad because I feel like everyone deserves to win because everyone's done the exact amount of effort." 

Still, even the biggest love-ins have their limits.

When Shelley joked about everyone deserving not only the win but the winnings, she was met with a few laughs and a definite 'no'.
