First look teases The Summit 2023 will be the 'most death defying adventure series' ever seen

There's a brand new show coming to Nine and it's set to "break the mould" and "take things to a whole new level".

And in the first look at adrenaline thriller The Summit, host and Hollywood actor Jai Courtney lets us know exactly what we're in for. You can watch the video above.

The Summit Season 1 is coming soon to 9Now.

"Take a million bucks and split it 14 ways, 14 backpacks stuffed with cash – now I've got your attention," he says. 

In the rugged Alps of New Zealand's southern island, a group of 14 ordinary Australians all with an equal share of a million dollar in the backpack, must reach the summit of a distant mountain. 

"Looks like fun, it won't be," Jai assures viewers.

"If you quit, can't continue or cut loose, your cash goes down with you." 

In order to win the million dollars the contestants will tackle dangerous terrain, wild conditions and overcome adrenaline-charged challenges that block their path to the mountain.  

And the participants are starting to realise "it's not easy". 

Tears are shed and people are pushed to the ultimate limits "in the most death defying adventure series ever seen".

Vision shows one contestant dangling over the side of a mountain cliff before slipping off.

And two players panic as they hear distant screams.

"I've never done anything like this before," one contestant says wiping tears from his eyes.

While another tells cameras the journey "has always been for his mum".

It's not just a physical game of strength but also a game of strategy with opportunities arising to steal cash from other players.  

"Be careful, getting to the summit is just the beginning," Jai warns.
