The Steelers redemption campaign came down to a nail biting finish, but they held on throughout the physical affair for a 55-53 win.
There were moments where it looked like France were about to turn the game on it's head.
Hodge finishes fifth
Australia's Tim Hodge was the second in the green and gold to take to the pool this morning.
Competing in the men's 100m breaststroke final, Hodge touched fifth with a time of 1:12.11.
The final saw two disqualified and another - Carlos Daniel Serrano Zarate - record a new Paralympic record in the S7 category.
France hit back at Steelers power
Australia currently lead France by 1 in the wheelchair rugby.
The Aussies were dominating in the first quarter of the match, forcing France to work twice as hard to cross the line as they claimed a four-point lead.
Head coach Brad Dubberley took advantage of his side's lead and opted to utilise his bench in the second quarter, but a combination of errors and missed opportunities saw the margin quickly shift back in favour of the host nation.
A tactical time out by Dubberley marked the return of Australia's starting lineup, with a late try on the stroke of halftime cementing the Steelers one-point lead.

The Australian Steelers are in an elimination battle against France in wheelchair rugby.
The host nation has a roaring crowd behind them at Champs-de-Mars arena.

Stephens falls short of podium
Keira Stephens has fallen 0.5 short of the podium in the women's 100m breaststroke final.
The Tokyo bronze medallist entered the SB9 final as sixth seed, turning at the 50m in 36.06.
Her time was faster than her qualifying time this morning but it was Chantalle Zijderveld of the Netherlands who claimed gold.

Dutch star collects third career gold
Beautiful scenes down at the pool as Netherlands swimmer Liesette Bruinsma won her third Paralympic career gold.
Touching the wall in 5:00.42, Bruinsma dominated the 400m freestyle final (S11) and recorded a new European swimming record.
Xiatong Zhang came in 3.03 seconds behind the Bruinsma, recording an Asian swimming record in the event.
But it was the Netherland star's celebrations that stole the show post-race.

Milne advances in men's compound
Australian archer Jonathon Milne has survived the torrential rain to win his first elimination matchup in the men's compound.
Milne defeated Japan's Yuya Oe 147-142.
He will be back in action at 12:30am on Monday (AEST) with his opponent yet to be confirmed.
