They quickly became the unsung heroes of the closing ceremony.
The volunteers were there to help all in Paris, even those taking to the stage to ignite the celebrations.
When it began to rain, several people holding umbrellas rushed onto the stage to keep the performers dry.

And their duty did not finish until the ceremony's conclusion.

Taking athletes into the final song at State de France, French DJ and singer-songwriter Martin Solveig invited Team France on stage for his set.
Athletes were seen dancing and celebrating with the DJ as fellow performers joined the group on stage.

History-making UK model wins para-canoe silver
Seven years after becoming the first amputee to win Mr England, a top UK modelling award, Jack Eyers of Great Britain became a Paralympic medallist.
The 35-year-old para-canoe athlete picked up silver in the men's va'a single 200m (VL3) after crossing the finish line in 47.87 seconds.
Eyers was born with a condition called proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), which affected his right hip, knee and femur.
It made him "very embarrassed" and "very ashamed" of how his leg looked.
He was advised to wait until he was 18 and had stopped growing to have his leg amputated, but he convinced doctors to amputate above the knee at 16.
Eyers noticed quickly after entering the modelling world that the industry had a lack of models living with a disability.
"My goal was to challenge a perception of disability," Eyers said.
"I'm quite happy to say that I was one of the first amputees to really step into that world and it wasn't a very common thing.
"Now it's quite common to see disabled models on the catwalks, whether that be in a wheelchair or amputee."
Eyers said it was initially "very nerve-racking because you don't know what people are going to think".
"Some of the able-bodied models, you could tell they weren't too happy about it," he said.
"... Fashion designers and catwalk producers just weren't happy with the idea because they were talking about the catwalk being like the ballet; there needs to be classic, same-shape models, same-height models.
"We were changing that, we were changing the mould, I believe, for the better."
Eyers was rapt with claiming silver in Paris.
"I'm so proud, so happy, a dream come true," he said.

Tragic accident behind Italian gold medallist's joy
Among the most joyous celebrations of those at the Stade de France on day 10 was that of Italian Martina Caironi, who was ecstatic after clinching gold in the women's T63 100m dash.
Caironi, who's now 34, had most of her left leg amputated after a hit-and-run accident when she was 18.
Caironi and her brother were riding on a motorcycle when a car smashed into them, doing serious damage to Caironi's left leg.
Her brother emerged unscathed.
In the picture above, Caironi is leaping for joy with Indonesian silver medallist Karisma Evi Tiarani and British bronze medallist Ndidikama Okoh.
Caironi is a three-time Paralympic gold medallist.
