We'll be back tomorrow.

Dogs 'going to have to accept' unders for Smith

Lachlan Harper

The trade situation with the Western Bulldogs and Geelong over Bailey Smith continues to drag on.

The Bulldogs are likely to have to accept pick 17 from the Cats and potentially a future first rounder.

Due to Smith being off contract, the Dogs risk losing Smith for nothing.

"I just wonder whether it might be Geelong stalling ... because they hold the greater hand," Josh Jenkins said on AFL Trade Radio.

"There's not a world where Bailey Smith is at the Dogs next year, he was barely there this year.

"... I wonder whether they haven't come together that desperately ... Geelong hold most of the aces in this situation, if I'm a Western Bulldogs list manager I'm not comfortable about taking pick 17 but I'm going to have to accept it."

Premiership winning coach John Worsfold is back at the Eagles!

He's joining the club as head of football.

His responsibilities will include coaching structure and development, performance and culture.

"We are excited to see John rejoin the club in a role which we believe will be significant across our football programs. His coaching and football experience will provide vital assistance, leadership and support for our AFL, AFLW and WAFL teams," CEO Don Pyke said in a statement.

"We have a fresh and exciting group of leaders within our football programs and the opportunity to add someone with John's experience is significant as we move towards future success."

Worsfold said he's "excited to be back".

"I have been fortunate to learn a lot in my time and role at Emeco group that has added to my AFL leadership experience. It will be an exciting period to work with some outstanding leaders across all competitions," he said.

In 2009, he moved to West Coast as an assistant under John Worsfold.

Demons CEO under fire

AFL reporter Damian Barrett called for Melbourne Demons CEO Gary Pert to step down over the Clayton Oliver debacle.

Two trade periods in a row now the Demons have made attempts to move on Oliver, only to backflip.

Josh Jenkins believes the Demons management are now looking "foolish".

"The chain of command is all out of whack ... when you take people for fools, you're the ones that look foolish," he said on AFL Trade Radio.

"That's what's happening with the Melbourne Football Club."

'Not a fair trade': Cornes on Neal-Bullen

Alyssa Bone

Kane Cornes has questioned the ease of Alex Neal-Bullen's departure from Melbourne, declaring the club did not get the correct compensation for the player's value.

Neal-Bullen confirmed he will depart the Demons for the No.28 draft pick, joining the Crows on a four-year deal.

"I know that they love Alex Neal-Bullen, and I know there's family reasons behind the move and all of that," he said on Trade Radio.

"But why is this the first trade done, and why are they so easy to deal with? That's not a fair trade for Melbourne, isn't it?

"He had two years left on a contract that he recently signed, and he finished third in the best and fairest.

"He's a contracted player who was a key member of that side and Adelaide got a second-rounder for Shane McAdam, he couldn't lace up the boots of Alex Neal-Bullen."

Club legend unleashes on messy trade talk handling

Demons legend Garry Lyon has slammed his former club over the messy handling of Clayton Oliver's trade rumours.

Oliver is on contract with Melbourne until the end of 2030 but reportedly wants out to join forces with Geelong after meeting the team at Cats ruckman Rhys Stanley's farm.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb denied suggestions of trade talks, declaring Oliver has "never been offered for trade."

"It's been an absolute shemozzle," Lyon said on SEN Breakfast.

"But in the end, it would appear Clayton is going to stay. He's got this long-term contract.

"The upside is still significant. If he was going to go, the return would have been negligible for someone of his standing.

"I know his standing's been diminished in the last 12 months. Some self-inflicted and otherwise. But you just have to draw a line under it and get on with it.

"Melbourne have made this a nightmare of an issue, but essentially clubs are asking questions all the time."

Melbourne CEO Gary Pert reportedly tested the interest of rival clubs in Oliver, despite coach Simon Goodwin's wish to keep the midfielder at the Dees.

The reported testing was labelled a "huge mistake" by Lyon.

"How you garner that information would appear to me to be Melbourne's greatest mistake in this and they should be held to account for the way they went about it," he said.

"It's been a bit embarrassing. It's been frustrating. The way they've [the club has] gone about it has been no good and only added to what has been a really poor 18 months."

BREAKING - first trade of the day confirmed

Simon Brunsdon

The first completed trade on day two is Jack Graham heading to West Coast.

Richmond gets pick 42 as compensation.

"Jack obviously had a tough decision to make about where he viewed his playing future and we are delighted he has decided to continue his career at the West Coast Eagles," list manager Matt Clarke said.

"Jack will add another mature and experienced body to our midfield mix, and he is in the age profile we are looking to bolster amongst our squad.

"His professionalism and leadership will also be valuable for our developing playing group.

"We look forward to welcoming Jack and his partner Jordan to the club."
