Percy Pigs were never going to land on Australian supermarket shelves with a whimper. They were always going to hit big, with much drama.

Just days after the British delicacy officially arrived in Coles supermarkets thanks to a collaboration between makers Marks & Spencer (M&S) and the Australian supermarket giant, there have been reports of locations selling out of the much-loved product – and now, rumours of buying limits.

One fan reported to nine.com.au they were limited to eight packets of Percy Pigs during a recent attempted purchase.

We contacted Coles Australia and were told there were no official purchasing limits in stores.

However, when we tried to purchase items in the Percy Pigs and Colin the Caterpillar range online, we were limited to eight.

Our attempt to purchase more than eight packets on the Coles app and website resulted in a message that read: "You've reached the order limit. For business orders contact us."

Packets of Allens confectionary allowed for 12 packets to be purchased before buying limits are enforced on the Coles app and website.

A visit to a local Coles location in Castle Hill in Sydney resulted in more than eight packets of Percy Pigs allowed in a single purchase, meaning these buying limits only appear to apply online.

We have since been told online purchase limits were put in place to ensure availability for Coles online customers and avoid disappointment.

Percy Pigs and Colin the Caterpillar treats arrived in Australia officially on November 19, as part of a range of M&S products.

They can be a little difficult to locate. Most shoppers head straight to the confectionary aisle to search for them, which is where you can usually find them, however they may also be featured in their own exclusive displays at the top or bottom of aisles.

The addition of the much-loved confectionary range in has proven to be the most successful confectionary launch in the supermarket's history, breaking sales records with 47,500 of Percy Pigs and Colin the Caterpillar sold on launch day.

This left fans disappointed and left to scour multiple locations to try and find them.

Coles in North Sydney in NSW was completely sold out, with only empty baskets left where unique displays had been set up.

"The launch of Marks & Spencer Food has been an absolute hit down under," a Coles spokesperson confirmed to nine.com.au.
