Jo Abi

Experience

Jo Abi writes about Australian supermarkets, including Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, IGA and Costco, as well as specialty retailers, with a focus on helping customers save money on groceries and other household expenses while keeping their budgets in line and with cost-of-living concerns at the forefront. She delves into supermarket strategies that shape shoppers' behaviour, speaking regularly to consumer and marketing experts at RMIT, Griffith University, Choice and Compare the Market. She works with retail, branding and legal experts about consumer matters, as well as Australian food bloggers and major brands including McDonald's, KFC, Arnott's, Streets Ice Cream, Nestle and Cadbury.

She began working at Nine Entertainment in 2014, presenting and contributing to segments on Today, Today Extra, Weekend Today, A Current Affair and 9News, and hosted Inspiring Rooms for the Nine Network, available on 9Now. Jo joined 9honey at nine.com.au in 2017 and has since built a strong body of consumer work covering daily insights and completing investigative pieces. She is the author of the series Supermarket Sleuths and hosts the video series Simple Ways to Save.

Jo began her career in radio at ARN before authoring the book  How to Date a Dad. She contributed to radio shows on 2GB, 2UE, and i98. Following this, Jo worked at Mamamia, where she forged strong relationships with Australian businesses and brands, hosted a podcast called The Parent Code, and used her own personal experiences with her family and finances for successful video and written campaigns.

Jo is also a professional speaker and event host, covering a range of topics focusing on affordability, family, parenting, disability, career and education. She is an advocate for autism, neurodivergent issues, child mental health and education reform. She works with Lifeline as a keynote speaker and has served on their Lifeline Gala Committee for the past four years. She also works with Autism Awareness Australia, the Autism Community Network and Stronger Together Foundation.

Education

Jo has completed her Master of Creative Writing at Macquarie University, a Master of Arts in Communications at UWS, and a Diploma in Children’s Literature at Macquarie University in 2020. Additionally, she recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Autism and Neurodivergent Studies at UOW in 2025. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Child Psychology and Social Science at Macquarie University.

Awards and Recognition

Jo Abi has been recognised for her impactful work, including being nominated for Columnist of the Year at the Mumbrella Publish Awards in 2018 and 2020. In 2019, she won the Agenda Setter Award at the Nine Entertainment ‘Women of Influence’ Awards for her significant work in the child mental health space.
