The 'new' Macca's burger is delicious, but comes with a bigger price tag
Maccas has relaunched their McCrispy chicken burger this week, and it is definitely an improvement on the original.
But it has also come with a price hike.
The new McCrispy will set you back $10.10, up from $9.15, at McDonald's in Castle Towers, Castle Hill, which is my local.

And the new McCrispy Deluxe has increased from $10.55 to $11.50. That's almost a dollar increase for both burgers.
We here at nine.com.au were given the opportunity to try the new McCrispy, and we loved it.
You can hear the crunch when you bite into it. The chicken is juicy and delicious, and the new sauce is amazing. The roll is different, but definitely tasty.
But it is small, and not something I am happy to pay $10.10 for, especially when there are more affordable options on the McDonald's menu.

A Chicken 'n' Cheese is $3.50 at the same McDonald's location is just $3.50.
If I make that a meal I get fries and a drink, all for $10.70 – just slightly more than the cost of a single McCrispy.
Then there is the McChicken, which is $8.10. Still pretty pricey, but at least it is under the $10 mark.

Or there is the McSmart Meal, which includes a burger, fries, drink and sundae for $6.95. A Big Mac is $8.70, a Quarter Pounder is $8.75.
A Double Cheeseburger is $6.95! And a Cheeseburger is $5.30. Or, you can get a basic Hamburger for $2.
My go-to McDonald's order is a Bacon & Egg McMuffin, which costs $6.25 these days, but I don't get Hash Browns anymore because they are $2 each.
The point is: the McCrispy isn't something I would be happy to buy when there are so many other affordable options at McDonald's and at other fast food outlets.

Or I make my own chicken burgers at home, which is what a lot of Aussies are doing these days to make ends meet – the so-called "fakeaway" trend, where we make our own, more affordable versions of our favourite takeaway meals to save.
As prices have increased steadily over the past couple of years, I haven't cut anything out, but I do buy things less often.

For example, buying takeaway coffee a couple of times a week instead of every day, and takeaway meals maybe once a week or every other week instead of more regularly.
There's only so far we can stretch our money, so we have to make it count. And it has to be delicious, and worth the price.
