iPhone 17 series specs and features

iPhone 17 upgrades to ProMotion display

We've seen ProMotion in the higher-end models for a few years now, but it finally features in the base iPhone 17.

This means you get the same smooth 120Hz refresh rate, along with a larger 6.3-inch display, putting it in line with the Pro models on all ends of display performance and size.

Apple also claims the display has 3x better scratch resistance than the previous generation, plus the phone will reach up to 3000 nits peak brightness.

And yes, there are performance upgrades too with the latest A19 chip that's faster, more efficient with Apple Intelligence and promises all-day battery life with up to 30 hours of video playback.

The camera also features a 48MP Fusion camera and a 2x telephoto, with the ultra-wide lens seeing a massive upgrade to 48MP. The front camera also gets an upgrade to 18MP (from 12MP), and now has a Centre Stage feature that can capture landscape selfies without the need to rotate your phone.

iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone ever

The iPhone Air comes with the "power of the Pro" tucked inside a 120Hz ProMotion, 6.5-inch display, 5.6mm thickness marvel of Apple technology. For iPhone Plus users, this model is replacing that lineup, but fear not, as it promises the same 27 hours of video playback.

Look, if you're into photography, this might not be your best bet, but the iPhone Air still comes with an impressive new 48MP fusion main camera and an 18MP Centre Stage front camera.

To maintain its lightweight feeling, Apple is also introducing a new batch of accessories, like a bumper that borders the iPhone Air's design. To achieve the design, Apple had to sacrifice the physical SIM card, so globally the iPhone Air is eSIM-only.

The Pro models have been taken to a new level with the biggest standout, of course, being the new stretched camera bump.

Aside from that, the Pro line-up has also returned to a solid aluminium design with a new bright orange colourway to choose.

Performance-wise, the new A19 Pro chip will offer 40 per cent better sustained performance, making it the "most powerful iPhone ever created". With better specs comes better battery life, with up to 10 hours more life on the Pro Max.

Specs aside, the new camera bump has allowed Apple to overhaul their camera system, now offering three 48MP fusion cameras that feature the "longest zoom ever on an iPhone". With this new camera set-up, Apple says it's like having up to eight lenses in your pocket.
