'We went for it': Former Blockheads Jess Eva and Norm Hogan return to screens in 'outrageous' new reno show Budget Battlers

EXCLUSIVE: The Block stars Jess Eva and Norm Hogan are excited to be back on the tools, but their return comes with a catch.

Hosting the groundbreaking new series Budget Battlers, the duo will be transforming everyday homes owned by deserving Aussies – on the tightest budget ever seen on Australian television.

Brand new episodes of Budget Battlers premieres tonight at 8.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Exactly how much? The Block 2018 fan-favourites have given themselves just $10,000 to transform entire homes.

"It wasn't a budget I decided on, it was Jess!" Norm laughed as they spoke to 9Entertainment ahead of the show's premiere.

While certainly ambitious, it was a project inspired five years ago when Jess renovated their own kitchen for just $460.

"We renovated our own kitchen as a trial for $400 many years ago and it got all this traction," Jess explained.

"Paint is cheap. You can brighten up a room and make it look sensational for bugger all," Norm added.

Armed with spray paint, tile paint and $8 grout, Jess proved you truly can transform your home while on a budget – and that's what their new show is all about.

"I said to Normie, I think this is what we should do. We pretty much realigned our entire lives and went for it," said Jess.

Although, admittedly Jess "wasn't feeling confident at all" they could pull it off.

But they learned even the most ambitious reno dreams can be achieved if you have a fair-dinkum go.

With a new house to renovate each episode, Jess and Norm gear up with just $10,000 to $15,000 per home, a group of selfless qualified volunteers and only five working days, to inspire viewers with jaw-dropping transformations.

"Everybody, with no matter how much money in the bank, even $5, will be able to take something away from each episode," said Jess.

"The transformations are just outrageous for the price."

The return on investments made is equally outrageous.

"Over the four houses we renovated, we made over $1 million in equity with $60,000 investment all up," Jess revealed.

"It just goes to show it doesn't matter where you are, who you are, just have a crack," Jess added.

They also learned that kindness from the community can go a long way.

"The ripple effect of kindness is just incredible," said Jess of their experience. "We had people walking in left right and centre who didn't even know the homeowners asking if we wanted a hand."
