In the noughties he was everywhere, the man behind the banger 2013 hit Party Rock Anthem, but now Redfoo has taken a very surprising pivot with an unexpected career change.

Redfoo, whose real name is Stefan Gordy, was looking back at his music success during a chat with Richard Wilkins when he opened up about his professional tennis ambitions.

Today’s Entertainment Editor Wilkins, recalled meeting Redfoo years ago when Party Rock Anthem first hit the airwaves and noted just how big it got.

“It definitely changed my life,” Redfoo explained.

“That was our, first number one, global, and, you know, the shuffling and just the people, the, the just have a good time was the message, still is the message.”

“You’re playing a bit of tennis these days?” Wilkins asked.

And Redfoo revealed that it’s a bit more than just having a hit with friends.

“It’s going good, I’m doing my best to get my ATP point,” he explained.

“But the competition is fierce.”

An ATP point is a ranking unit earned by male professional tennis players based on their performance in official tournaments. These points determine a player’s official PIF ATP Rankings, which dictate entry acceptance and seedings into global tennis events.

Redfoo noted that there are some very good, and young, players out there, who “don’t have the stiff back that I got, you know”.

Wilkins asked him what his best moves are on the court, and he said, “The serve, the overhead smash and the forehand.”

While it may seem like an unusual career pivot for the musician, Redfoo has actually been actively engaged in the world of tennis for a long time.

More than a decade ago, he played in the first round of the US Open National Playoffs in Salinas, California. Despite losing that match to Scott Gray, he remained positive.

"I say it's a success for me because the journey was so great, and I actually felt good out there," the 37-year-old Redfoo told The Californian, per tennis.com.

"The guy kicked my butt in the score, and he played great."

But aside from his aspiring tennis career, Redfoo is also a dad to two daughters with his partner, Jasmine Alkouri, who are three and nine months old.

While it may seem like he’s got a lot on his plate, he told Wilkins that being a dad is just “amazing”.

“I’m a father now and it’s the best thing, I just recommend it for everybody just you gotta have kids,” he said.

“Seeing the little ones grow up.”

And when it comes to following in his footsteps, he’s hoping both girls will head towards sport rather than music and told Wilkins they’ll both be tennis players, although he is open to them doing a bit of music too.

Redfoo is best known for his role in the band LMFAO.

Their early releases including I’m In Miami B--ch and Shots made the Billboard Hot 100 chart. But they are best known for their 2011 single Party Rock Anthem, which became a hit in clubs worldwide.

In 2012, they even performed at the Super Bowl half time show with Madonna but later that year the band announced they were going on hiatus and never got back together.

Both Redfoo and bandmate Sky Blu went on to pursue solo careers.
