X-Files star Gillian Anderson, 58, comes out as pansexual after 10-year rumoured romance
Gillian Anderson has opened up about her sexuality in a new interview, just weeks after revealing she was in a same-sex relationship as a teen.
The two-time Golden Globe winner, 58, revealed she identifies as pansexual, attracted to all people regardless of their gender or gender identity, as she spoke with The Australian.

“I do hear of a lot of women around our age who are rediscovering their sensuality and their desire for sex,” said the actress.
She admitted hearing other women’s experiences inspired her own sexuality to evolve.
“It certainly sounds like they’re in the dating field. That they’re having a lot of fun, a lot of opportunities, but also being approached on these apps by much younger men.”
The X-Files star and mum-of-three was last romantically linked to The Crown creator Peter Morgan. The pair were linked on and off since 2016, frequently attending major awards shows and red carpets together.
Despite their public appearances, their high-profile relationship was never confirmed.
In August 2026, however, the actress said she considers her life partner to be male.
“But I think I would feel the same way if it were a woman,” she told The Sunday Times. “I’d feel this is my partner.”
Anderson, known for her role on Emmy-winning series Sex Education, spoke of her past relationships with The Sunday Times, including one of her first relationships with “an older girl” in high school.

“It felt secretive and illicit and wrong and we had to hide,” she told the publication. “Later on, I had a boyfriend who found out and broke up with me.”
It’s because she’d “had a couple of boyfriends”, The Crown star didn’t think more of her sexuality, nor did she have the “language” at the time.

She also revealed she had other relationships with women but never really thought of them as “being potentially forever”.
Anderson has been married twice.
She shares daughter Piper, 31, with ex-husband and The X-Files assistant art director Clyde Klotz who she married from 1994 to 1997.

From 2004, she was married for two years to documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne.
The star shares two teenage sons Oscar, 19, and Felix, 17, with ex Mark Griffiths who she dated from 2006 to 2012.
