Jessica Alba has copped some heated backlash over her Halloween costume, after she dressed up as figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, post-attack.

The 45-year-old actress’ costume was complete with a bloody, bandaged knee and a white figure-skating dress, which closely resembled an outfit that Kerrigan once wore on the ice.

She originally posted a photo of the look to her Instagram, joined by a friend who was also dressed as a figure skater, holding a baseball bat and in costume as Tonya Harding.

“Happy Halloween from Tonya [Harding] … and Nancy,” the caption of the post read.

But Alba swiftly deleted the post following backlash from people online, who accused her of making fun of “a victim” of violence.

In January 1994, a man hired by Tonya Harding’s ex-husband, used a police baton to assault Kerrigan, breaking her knee ahead of the Olympic qualifiers, forcing the figure skater to withdraw.

Following the assault, Harding, who was never criminally convicted of any involvement in the assault, was handed a lifetime ban from the US Figure Skating Association.

While the headline-making incident happened over 20 years ago, many of Alba’s followers thought the costume was in bad taste.

“Immature. We expect better, Jessica,” one fan wrote.

Another questioned why the pair would “revisit this traumatic moment that ended people’s careers” and “making a Halloween costume out of a victim of an attack.”

A third person referenced Martha Stewart’s controversial homeless person costume in the comments, writing: “Wow, first Martha and now Jessica. Why are we being nasty this Halloween?”

Meanwhile, users on Reddit came to Alba’s defence.

“Eh. It’s been over 30 years, there’s been two feature films and, like, five made for TV movies about it. It seems like a pretty tame joke at this point,” one person wrote.

Stewart recently copped backlash over her costume, dressing up as a homeless person, wearing tattered clothing with dirt on her face and a sign begging for food.

“I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!” the sign read in her Instagram snap.

The controversial picture was uploaded in an Instagram carousel which included pictures of candles Stewart sells on the home shopping network QVC.

“My QVC candles are perfect for Halloween!!!” she captioned the post.

It wasn’t long before the photo was removed.

The costume was branded “gross”, “offensive” by many on the platform.

“The level of out of touch is stellar,” one person replied on a thread.

Others took issue with the fact that Stewart, who has an estimated net worth of $400 million ($569 million AUD) appeared to make a joke about those struggling with poverty.
