Exclusive: Allison Langdon may have found herself a classic race day experience in the Birdcage – but the A Current Affair host was actually on the clock.

“I am working again! This is all my own fault,” Langdon told nine.com.au from inside the trackside marquee.

“I said, ‘If we’re going to be down here doing the Cup, why don’t we do the show?’ So… the good thing is, I’m currently in the Birdcage. Don’t tell my boss!

“Marty King is running around doing his thing, getting all the colour. Sam Cucchiara has been here since like 5.30am for sunrise, getting everything that happens behind the scenes. And I’m in the Birdcage, saying hi to everybody!”

Langdon had to make the most of her time in Melbourne, explaining she was on a pretty tight schedule.

“I flew down after the show last night on the 10pm flight. I’m doing this, then on an early flight tomorrow,” she said.

“It’s the whirlwind trip, because while I’m doing this, my husband’s at home getting the kids ready for school, picking them up from school, and there’s only so much you can stretch the friendship!”

Langdon said she was dressed for success thanks to the Nine wardrobe department, wearing a deep emerald-green gown from Australian brand ESSE Studios.

The look came together with Camilla and Marc earrings and a matching headband – that was all thanks to some wardrobe magic.

“This was somehow part of the dress, and we’ve made it into the headband,” she confessed.

But of course, there was one all-important outfit detail that would make or break race day.

“It all had to tie into my only pair of comfortable high heels. So that is how this came together,” she said.
