An explosion of colour at Melbourne Cup as stars and guests storm the event in jaw-dropping looks

Hear that? It’s the faint sound of heels pounding the pavement in Flemington.

Melbourne Cup has arrived once again, bringing with it a host of celebrities from here and around the world. (Robbie Williams and Helena Christensen, anyone?)

For us, the main event is inside the birdcage and in the stands, where the stars and guests alike are storming in outfits you have to see to believe.

Speaking of the main event, Pip Edwards is on her way to Flemington!

She was, without a doubt, the most talked-about celebrity on Derby Day thanks to her extravagant outfit and headpiece that obscured half her face.

Now on cup day, the fashion mogul has done it yet again!

While most opt for a dress and fascinator, it seems Edwards has gone in a different direction, reaching for a gorgeous blue sculptural top, capris and matching hat.

“Pip Edwards is embracing head-to-toe monochromatic dressing in turquoise, with a look that feels both modern and considered,” Stylist Tara Pokarier said of the J’Aton Couture design.

“It creates the foundation for the colour story, while the wide brimmed hat by Embellish Atelier takes centre stage with its sculptural crown and intricate crystal embellishment.

“It’s a great example of how monochrome doesn’t have to mean minimal, when you play with proportion, texture and embellishment. One colour can make a powerful statement.”

Meanwhile, Jules Neale is getting ready to make her Cup debut as a single woman.

“Jules Neale is making a confident case for red as a head-to-toe statement at Flemington, wearing By Johnny,” Pokarier said.

“The fitted silhouette and fluted hem, finished with feather-like trim, bring a playful sense of drama to an otherwise streamlined gown. I love the commitment to the monochromatic palette we’re seeing already.“

“The matching opera gloves, pointed pumps and simple red headpiece create a cohesive look without competing with the statement hem. It’s a more modern, pared back approach to racewear, proving you don’t necessarily need elaborate millinery when colour and silhouette are doing all the work.”

In the stands, (despite the rain), the theme of the day seems to be sunny days, with florals (of course) and bright colours popping in the grounds.

“The plunging neckline brings a contemporary edge to the otherwise polished silhouette, while the gloves are a particularly elegant nod to the heritage of racewear. It’s the kind of look that feels entirely at home at Flemington.” Getty Images
