Kyle Sandilands backs out of live show minutes before broadcast amid ongoing health concerns

Kyle Sandilands backed out of his live broadcast on Tuesday morning at the 11th hour with newsreader Brooklyn Ross taking over the Kyle Sandilands Live show.

The shock jock, 55, showed up to his Sydney office on Tuesday morning with every intention of hosting, but Ross told listeners Sandilands left rushing when he didn’t feel well.

“Kyle actually was in the building this morning but has had to go home at the last minute,” Ross told fans as the show started. 

Executive Producer Jaimee ‘Mayo’ Blazquez chimed in, saying Sandilands didn’t seem like his usual self before he went home.

“We spoke for a little bit. I made him a coffee. He was more quiet. He wasn’t his jumpin’ around self,” she said.

“Apparently when he walked out, he looked really pale, like he was going to pass out. So he’s getting rest today.”

The shock-jock’s manager, Bruno Bouchet, added that Sandilands was feeling off since hosting his six-hour subscriber meet-and-greet over the weekend.

“Look, spoiler alert. Love Kyle, but I wouldn’t say that he’s the picture of amazing health, right?” Bruno said. 

“He’s alright. He was just in a lot of pain – and when our boy’s not a hundred per cent, he finds it hard to do the show, understandably.”

His absence comes one week after Sandilands revealed the brain aneurysm he was diagnosed with last year had grown by a millimetre.

Sandilands recorded himself as he left his doctor’s office and played the clip during his September 8 broadcast.

“So, today’s the day I’ve been dreading,” Sandilands said of the appointment. 

The former radio host explained that doctors told him initially the best plan of action was to leave it because it was more dangerous to operate, with the risk of a stroke, when he was first diagnosed in early 2025. 

“Well, it’s grown a little bit, which isn’t great news,” he said as he walked out of the doctor’s office. 

In a follow-up interview filmed at his desk in the studio he gave more details about the aneurysm. 

“So I come out of the doctor’s office and unfortunately the aneurysmhas gotten bigger, one millimetre bigger,” he said. 

“Which seems small, but I didn’t want to get that, that wasn’t the thing I wanted to hear. I was hoping – and in my mind – I thought, ‘I’ve got this, I’m gonna make it smaller,’ but it was bigger. 

“Not big enough yet for them to operate, but not a good sign moving forward.”

Sandilands said he felt like surgery was inevitable now. 

“That is terrifying to me,” he added.

Despite the aneurysm getting bigger, he said the doctor is still not ready to operate because, right now, it’s more dangerous to try and remove it than to leave it there. 

“A life of bad choices has probably led me here,” he reflected. 

“I’m full of regret. I do not want to die and I do not want to be carved up.” 

Sandilands first shared the news of his brain aneurysm diagnosis on the former Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS in February 2025.

“On Friday, I was told by my medical team, which sounds like I’m already very sick, to have a medical team, that I have a brain aneurysm and it requires immediate attention, brain surgery,” he announced on air at the time.

“If you just tuned in to us after all these years, lap it up. And if you’re in Melbourne… you’re coming to the party too late. You may get your wish. I may be dead.”
