Today, half of the world saw a rare solar eclipse when the moon passed between the Earth and sun, casting a shadow over parts of the US.
Celebrities marked the exciting celestial event by donning goofy protective glasses and gazing up at the sky as it went dark on Monday afternoon, US time.

Jessica Alba
Actress Jessica Alba "honoured" the solar eclipse at home, telling fans in a lengthy Instagram post that eclipses are all about new beginnings.
"This one has such an element of closure - about letting go so you can walk through a new portal and move into your power," she penned alongside a series of inspirational quotes.
"This eclipse is in Aries which is about our soul's purpose - our life's mission - so it really invites you to release anything that blocks you from aligning with your true soul fulfillment. It is about understanding that your pure soul - your essence - is worthy of love and acceptance no matter what."
Alba also shared photos of her setup as she marked the eclipse, which included bowls of crystals and bundles of sage, dried flowers and herbs.
To her fans, she said: "Wherever you are, whether you may be able to see the eclipse or not, it will be felt energetically around the world - so I hope you take a moment to connect, fill yourself with love, meditate with the energy, let go of what no longer serves you.
"The vibration that's being created right now will last about two weeks, so there is a lot of time to work with this energy - take time to reflect, go in, sit with yourself - and just ask yourself what doesn't belong to you? It's time to align with you - and chose YOU. Who are you and what do YOU want? What is your soul here to do and manifest? Sending so much love and light."

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes watched the solar eclipse with his daughter Sterling Skye.
Mahomes and his three-year-old donned matching glasses as they adorably shared the moment together.

Patrick's wife Brittany Mahomes also joined in on the eclipse viewing, posting a cute 'boomerang' clip of her and her mini-me daughter to her story.

Jason Derulo seemed to forget his glasses needed to watch the solar eclipse at home.
"I can see it without my glasses," the singer said while posing with social media influencer Haley Kalil.
"Bros got eyes stronger than the sun," Kalil commented on the Instagram post.
Kevin Bacon
Kevin Bacon took a break on set of his TV series The Bondsman to catch the solar eclipse.
The Footloose legend watched on with his co-stars Jennifer Nettles and Beth Grant.
"Working hard on The Bondsman. #Eclipse," Bacon captioned the pic.
Jenna Fischer
The Office alum Jenna Fischer, who played Pam in the series, shared a selfie of her solar eclipse attire.
"Saw it. (Well, saw 45% of it.) #TWSS" she captioned the Instagram snap.

Another The Office star joined in on the solar eclipse viewing.
Angela Kinsey, who played Angela in the US series shared this cut pic of her smiling up at the sky with her protective glasses on.
"Hey there partial eclipse! Love seeing everyone's reactions who are in the path of totality," she wrote on Instagram.
