Tom Cruise baffles fans with bizarre rant about why he avoids interviews
Hollywood star Tom Cruise has sat down for a rare interview with GQ, in which he attempted to explain why he has avoided long-form interviews for more than a decade.
However, fans of Cruise have been left confused by his answer, with many pointing out that the star failed to make any sense at all.

Sitting down with GQ’s Senior Special Projects Editor, Zach Baron, Cruise explained that he’s “been busy” before diving into a somewhat confusing ramble.
“There’s things that I want other artists to know, you know? They see it in the same way that – It’s like I want them to know,” he said.
“When people see a movie they want it to look easy. I don’t sit here, and understanding the joy of, that it’s okay if it hurts. That it’s hard. That it can be confusing, and you don’t know.
“If you look at my career, it’s been, it’s not happenstance that I ended up in Prague at the time that I ended up in Prague. Or China when I was there, or Dubai or wherever I – England, going there in 1982 to make Legend with Ridley Scott.
“I would see those doors that open, I’m going, ‘Here’s an opportunity’. When I look at that time, I sincerely mean like I’m grateful for the amount of time that I’ve spent where people have shared their lives with me.
“I can look at it for myself and go, ’okay, this is what acting is, or story or lens, or what I see.”
Fans in the comments section of a clip of the interview posted to Instagram were understandably confused, with many writing that they had “no idea what this man just said”.
“I was hoping he was gonna say something really important and significant but it’s just a word salad,” one commenter wrote. “Guys what did he say?? I’m so confused,” another added.
Some fans speculated that the confusing rant could potentially be an attempt by Cruise to avoid discussing his controversial ties with the Church of Scientology.

Trying to make sense of the response, Baron asked if Cruise was ultimately trying to say that he has avoided long-form interviews because he doesn’t want to “reveal the magic trick”.
“It’s like the journey is, and where we’re going, and the amount of things that I set in motion and decided I was going to do,” Cruise responded.
“And looking back on those things that I felt worked, do you know what I mean? I went for competence. I went for skill, for whatever level that was, being able to then go, ‘Oh, this is what I need to focus on’.
“Because I’m also, I’m a teacher and I’m a student. So I’m having to educate people on cinema and movies, and I’m being, hearing what they think also.”

Cruise has just begun promoting his upcoming film Digger, set for release in Australian cinemas on October 1.
