Mariah Carey's sister Alison 'was in hospice care' in the weeks leading up to her death after she and their mother died on the same day

Heartbreaking details have emerged about the death of Mariah Carey's sister Alison - who died on the same day as their mother, Patricia.

Alison's friend Dave Baker told The U.S. Sun that Alison, 63, was in hospice care in the lead up to her death.

"Alison was on home hospice care for the last three weeks of her life," he told the publication.

He spoke about her health issues, saying she "had a problem with internal organs".

He went on to pay tribute to Alison and added: "May you now find peace, your tortured soul forever free from earthly pain."

Earlier this week, Mariah confirmed to People the news that her mother and sister had died on the same day.

"My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," Mariah said about her mother Patricia and sister Alison.

"I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.

"I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time," she added.

After news of the deaths broke, Carey's fans flocked to her latest post on Instagram to send her their condolences.

Mariah previously spoke about her relationship with her singer mother in her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, as reported by People and other outlets.

"It's never been only black-and-white — it's been a whole rainbow of emotions," she wrote.

She also wrote a dedication to her mother in her book which reportedly read: "And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could," she wrote. "I will love you the best I can, always."

She also reportedly had a complicated relationship with her sibling over the years.
