'It's not easy': Brooke Shields in tears after major family change

Brooke Shields couldn't hold back the tears as she reached a major life milestone.

The Suddenly Susan star, 59, just helped her youngest daughter Grier Hammond Henchy move into university with her eldest daughter Rowan Francis Henchy, who did the same three years ago.

On returning home, Shields' new reality dawned on her and has left her in tears.

"I am now officially an empty nester," she said while holding back tears in a video posted to her Instagram.

Shields said she's she's glad her daughters are "together at least", as they are both living at the same university, but having them both out of the house is difficult.

"It's not easy for the mums," she said, stumbling over her words as she wiped away tears.

"I mean, it's just so weird. So weird that she's not here."

Shields explained that after helping Grier move into her university dorm, the duo shared an emotional farewell before Shields started her journey back home.

"It was really hard and then she started crying and then I really started crying," she said.

"And then I cried a good portion of the ride home."

"Both of my baby birds have left the nest," Shields captioned the emotional video.

Plenty of Shields' friends and fans understood how she felt and took to the comment section with messages of support.

"I know Brooke. But it gets a bit easier and always remember that we raised them to fly away," wrote American journalist Deborah Roberts.

"No one tells us how hard it is when they leave," read another comment.

Shields shared a similar emotional video two years ago when she sent her eldest daughter Rowan off for her second year of university.

"Turns out second time is NOT the charm when it comes to your baby going off to college. Sophomore year, here she comes. I'll be crying if you need me… 😭❤️," she captioned the video.

Both Shields daughter are now studying at North Carolina's Wake Forest University- Rowan is now a senior at the school while Grier is starting her first year.
