Kim Kardashian has been diagnosed with esophagitis, a condition linked to esophageal cancer, which is what killed her father Robert Kardashian in 2003.

The revelation was made in the Season 8 trailer of The Kardashians.

In a clip, Kardashian says that she’s been diagnosed with the condition. “I have something called esophagitis,” she says, before someone off camera replies: “Didn’t your father… isn’t that what he died of?”

Kim then gives a one-word answer: “Yeah.”

The trailer then shows Kardashian reclined in a hospital bed and gown. Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, is then seen tearing up in an emotional confessional.

“I can’t…it makes me want to cry,” she said.

Robert Kardashian died of esophageal cancer at the age of 59, just eight weeks after his diagnosis.

Esophagitis causes swelling and irritation of the lining of the esophagitis. Chronic or long-term esophagitis is linked to an increased risk of esophageal cancer, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The risk of developing cancer from the condition is low, and most cases of esophageal cancer “are not clearly linked to a gene passed down in families,” the Mayo Clinic says.

“So proud to announce the Robert G. Kardashian Centre for Esophageal Health being launched at UCLA,” Kim shared via X at the time.

“My wish is that other families can have more information and we can also focus on health and prevention.”

This is not the first health scare for Kardashian. Just one year ago, she revealed that doctors had found a “little” brain aneurysm during an MRI scan.

She was told that aneurysms can be caused by stress.

The SKIMS founder was going through a public and volatile divorce from rapper Ye, formally Kanye West, between 2021 and 2022.

Kim has briefly opened up about her divorce but from Kanye. In an episode of the Kardashians she explained that “something happened” to her estranged husband that “changed his personality.”

“They’re not the same person and you can’t ever get that person back, but you can’t live with the new person,” she said.

She also explained that sometimes “circumstances” can bring an end to a marriage.

“It’s tougher when you don’t want your marriage to end off of personal reasons, but circumstances change that force your marriage to end,” she told the camera in a confessional last year.

She said things are "harder" when "there's no other option".

The pair were married in 2014 but filed for divorce in 2021. Her marriage to Kanye was her third.

Kim shares four children with Kanye: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.
